Respect - to be commanded, NOT demanded

    by onearmedbandit On May 08, 2007 - 11:31 AM
Over the last few weeks we have noticed KB go through some changes. Obviously the most important change has been SpankMe stepping down from the day to day running of the site, handing full control over to the Senior Moderators. This was his decision, and it was his decision as to who would do the running of the forum. With that control comes decision making regarding the rules of the forum, for example what rules we have here and how they will be enforced. As SpankMe has stated previously, KB is not a democracy. This will remain the same, however as usual we appreciate and welcome your feedback and input, afterall KB is what it is because of its members. However the Senior Mods will be responsible for making all decisions.

The second change we have noticed is an 'us/them' mentality coming out regarding the relationship between the moderators and the other members. We never joined KB as moderators, we joined as members just like everyone else. We have no intention of changing things here to suit our own agendas, we just want to be involved in the smooth running of the site to ensure it is a place where everyone feels welcome. So with this in mind, at the present time the forum layout will not change, the rules will not change, infractions will remain as too the rep system and, as a last resort sin-binning.

However certain members have made it clear both on the forums and in person that they are out to disrupt the site as much as possible by attacking certain moderators and ignoring the site rules. And to a degree they have succeeded with other members jumping on the bandwagon and joining in. This is something we will not tolerate. As we said this forum is not just for a few, but for everyone. Our hands have been forced, and we have had to act.

To reiterate, we will not tolerate personal attacks or heavy abuse on any of the members here, and the same goes for any abuse directed at the moderators. We make that distinction because we are the leaders of the site, we are the ones charged with making decisions, and while we are not perfect, our decisions are final. We appreciate constructive feedback on any issue, but any abuse will be dealt with appropriately. If you do not agree with the actions of any of the mods, please PM one of the Senior Moderators and ask them to look into it. Using the PM or Rep system or forums to abuse someone is not acceptable.

Kiwi Biker is here for individuals with a common interest to meet each other, organise get-togethers and talk about bikes and anything they feel like. It is not here for individuals to 'bully' and intimidate others. We do not enjoy handing out infractions or worse, so don't give us reason to do so. Please respect the site and others who use.

So let’s get on with it, eh?

    Respect is something you EARN
    - and you don't do that by making a comment then closing the thread so no-one can express an opinion about it - THAT smacks of arrogance.

and arrogance, in my opinion. is something that is being displayed increasingly on this forum by mods to the rank and file - like me.............

please DON'T bleat on about how 'this forum belongs to the members' etc etc etc and how much you value feedback from us if you really don't give enough of a damn to allow us space to debate your timeless ponderings.

    get off the grass

anywhere on here there are DOZENS of 'ordinary members' who have more business acumen, commonsense, personality, charisma, facility with the English language and plain, old-fashioned integrity than any of you remaining senior mods can ever aspire to - we KNOW this intimidates you but we have a right to expect that you do an adequate job despite your personal inadequacies .........

oh dear *sigh* don't bother telling me - my 'telling it like it is' in this way is BOUND to be construed as a 'personal attack' on the holy personages of mods and rewarded with burning at the stake or something, no?

    what a load of bollocks

SpankMe - i'm embarrassed for you.

Well, maybe she woke up bothered about it. I woke up obsessing about a place I worked at in 1998. What're you doing up this early on a Saturday?

    Ms T......

I think it was wise (given the shit that was flying at time) that Oneball, I mean Onearmbandit closed the thread to avoid the inevitable.

Nothing to do with arrogant etc....this sight belongs to us all....Mods are members too and I am sure they want to keep this site running.

Culling is good......it keeps things running and if you or others don't like it then you have a choice...........

As I keep saying life aint perfect so don't expect this site to be. If you want to set up a perfect site go for it and we will see you back here later in the year...........arms still open.

There is a lot of good stuff that eminates for this site....just a few examples, Beyond's ride was well supported, guys came from Tauranga, Rotorua, even SixBelly came out of the sinbin, he got a job the next day via a site member, the response for Shaun, the list is longer than Tyson's arm of convictions.

The Mods, deserve respect because they are in a position of authority on this site and help run the site. Hey you got a guy who rides a bike with one arm....that deserves respect on it's own...........some of us, including me at times can't ride for shit with 2 arms some days............if the mess up then sure they will lose respect but for now they have my respect (for what it is worth) so leave them a lone.

Oh, yes, you're certainly just "telling it like it is", and refraining from personal attacks......

Not suprising really, with the number of Nazi war criminals that found refuge in south africa....... shame that it's allowed to sully a perfectly innocent motorcycle site though.

Sorry mstriumph, this is really disappointing. Regardless of the strength of your feelings, abuse and personal attacks simply undermine your position.

Heh, welcome to weeks ago lady...

In case you're not aware, there's a PM button, there's a site stuff subforum, there's also a senior members subforum, all great avenues for responding to whatever you like.

I'm sure that if that thread had've been left unlocked, it would have been a glorious contribution to the site, full of important, relevant, well thought out arguments, with each sides points being articulated well, and respect shown by all.

Yeah right... If you can't see the real reason why the mods wouldn't even bother going down the road of leaving that thread open for response, given the context of the time in which it was written, then you're loopy.

Ah, well I was never going to be up early reading this thread, that's not in my nature, but why can't we just all be nice to each other like a warm caring community with a common interest in bikes? That would be a novel idea huh!
    Cheers

Interesting to ponder for a moment that this sort of forum - bringing together people with a common love for bikes - has a massive breadth of personalities, backgrounds, experience, opinions and differing careers. As a result, we all have wildly differing points of view - accept that fact and maybe there will be less emotional bitching at each other.
