    Post Aquarists needed!

Ok, well I have finally found a flat, and moving house in a couple of weeks (FYI - room available to rent). I have decided to strip my aquarium down and set up a marine tank, instead of moving everything to the new location (which will be hard on the fish and the ecosystem).

So.. heres the delio... who wants some fish!?

Heres what is up for grabs:

    • A breeding pair of South American Cichlids (Geophagus brasiliensis, Chromis brasiliensis)
    • Adult female Bristlenose Pleco (Ancistrus sp.)
    • About a dozen Xiphophorus hellerii (swordtail).
    • One Koolie Loach

    Also Plants:

    • Echinodorus Amazonicus [Amazon Sword] (3 separate plants)
    • Vallisneria Spiralis (dozen separate plants)
    • Cambomba Piauhyensis (dozen separate plants)
    • Rotala Macrandra (3 plants)
    • Assorted grassess

These plants require CO2 injection into the water and very strong lighting in order to flourish. They are not plants for beginners.

I want them to all go to a good home, so only people who can supply the correct water chemistry for them will get them.

If no-one from here wants them (they can be safely shipped as far as Wellington) they will be sold to my local aquarium shop.

I know there is a few 'enthusiasts' like me on here so I thought it prudent to offer here first.

This setup is my pride and joy (after my bikes), and it is hard to let them go after so long. But I have always wanted to setup a marine tank after 15 years of keeping tropicals. So now I find myself in an ideal position to set up a marine tank in my new house!!!

You sing and play tunes to your fish.

.....I'm sure my cats would like new play friends.

I am sure Disco would see it as the human variety.

I would even consider helping anyone set up their own tank....

If you lived closer I'd send my old lady your direction... She just started up her tropical fish tank about 6 months or so ago....

She started off with a fair few fish.. Now only has about four...

Lets just say..... Her red tail shark... He's a hungry little sucker...

Im very curious as to what other fish she had that were "eaten"? Red tailed sharks are indeed predatory, but only towards their own kind or fish that resemble themsleves; this is why they are usually kept singly in the community aquarium.

What are those real pretty ones.. Gouramis and the little Neons.. Would bite chunks out of the Gouramis and eat the little Neons whole.. You'd find little skeletons in the bottom of the tank.. We even seen it do it.. Chases them in the tank and attacks them... Mum now has a Siamese fighting fish and the red tail shark even attacks him..

She doesn't want the red tail shark anymore cause she can't keep any other fish he just attacks them all and chases them around the tank all day..

Need more information. Do you have a picture of the fish? Im sorry, but it does not sound like a red tail shark now.

If you was closer, I would request a water sample. But thats not really practical.

Ok, is there plenty of cover in the form of decor? Plants, rockwork etc? They need to establish a territory, it sounds like every fish in the tank is being seen as a threat. This can happen if the tank is tool small, or incorect food is being given, or if there is not enough 'cover' for all the fish to hide in and give the shark a clear territory. Try "reseting" the territory by performing a 20% water change and re-arranging the entire tank - move rockwork into new formations, diferent locations etc etc.
