hehe, i was writing about fish last night, some of the questions in my work report for course were about keeping fish... i've learnt lots that i didnt know!

one thing, how were the fish transported? (just coz im curious to find out if there are any interesting methods used)

Special plastic bags which have the bottom corners sealed off.

1/3 water and 2/3 air in each bag. Keep them as dark as possible during their time in the bag.

ah, cool, so the conventional method, its supposed to be the safest way to transport them as well _b.

what do you think about keeping axylotyls (if you know anything about them)
A few times I've thought about keeping one or 2 of them as they're so interesting and rather exotic...

if you do know anything about them, do they tend to interact much in a normal tank situation? (i've only ever seen them floating with their legs splayed in the pet shop) and would they be fresh water?

if you know anything, that would be awesomeo, if not, i'll have to search the wonderful www

edit:which i have found out from that they are actually cichlids.. ooh.. i love the www

They will stay "fish" and eat a variety of 'meaty' foods. You can make them metamorphasise (spelling) when you add iodine to the water....

Yes they are born without legs and lungs etc etc... add iodine to the water and it will grow legs and develop the ability to breathe above water.

Often used in high school experiments as it shows how evolution works etc.

    Fasinating creatures really.

Had a bit to do with these things...Aparently they live in the amazon. And grow to a very large size.....Also breath out of water....Worked in the freezing works years ago ,,and got talking to a MAF guy about them.....He said if you feed them thyroid glands they will develope into a massive size...Dunno..never tryed it.....Must be something in the food there that makes them big and able to live out of water....Mind u DD said they did have a set of lungs........Interesting

lolz, well they are amphibious, so they would be able to breath air... as they are a type of salamander... yeah, i did my research today... they're really interesting! (as you know ive said heaps, but its true!) they're kind of like koi, the way they grow apparently, the size of the tank is a big factor or something...

Its really cool how they can regrow limbs and stuff... awesome stuff.. gotta love these little cuties!
