    Alternative to dynojet kits??

Found this in the thumpertalk forum, about a DR650. Cost him $2.60 so sounds a bit better than $100

I've read all the posts about the Dynojet & K&N carb kits, but have also had great luck using conventional methods. I just installed a 160 main jet, shimmed the needle with a .040 thick washer, drilled the second hole in the slide, and turned the fuel screw out 2.5 turns. Also removed the airbox cover. The bike runs awsome. No flat spots, starts in a micro second, and totally rips. All for the price of a jet. I'll check the plug color after a longer ride. Oh yah, the bike is much louder now, but a nice kind of loud. Anyone else tried this mod? If so please reply.
See any disadvantages of doing this rather than getting a dynojet kit?
Where can you buy 160 jets from?

I shimmed the carb needles in both the VFR750 and VTR1000 - cost me nothing.
I also replaced the VTR's airfilter with a Unifilter - also cost me nothing, as I already had the foam.

Back when I had the XBR500RS Mutant, I did the "drilling the carb slide" thang, but that was because of summat I read in a dirt bike mag, that suggested it stopped the slide sticking at low revs, due to suction.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

find out what brand of carb your bike has (mikuni or keihin) and most motorbike shops should be able to supply you with a main jet for that brand of carb. a 160 jet isnt nessesarily what you need (depends on the bike) as too lean can do damage
PM me or email me at mail@timmcarthur.co.nz for $45 knee sliders incl GST and shipping

Any good bike shop should sell jets. You will need a selection to get it right, but they used to be around $5 each.
Let me know if you want to dyno it, and we cna run it up.. Bring beer.
