No reason at all, but humans being what we are, will, and do many unreasonable things. Some we get away with, others bite us in the arse.
I still believe we should way up the risks/affect it has on others, and hopefully come to a mature decision in most if not all cases.
Sadly, not every one can comprehend what common sense is. Such is life.

    U recon NO???

If you have to ask you're probably not there yet. Hell, I've been riding since 1982, am I still a newbie? Still got a lot to learn and having fun doing it. Seriously though, if you feel confident on the bike and can get yourself out of strife you've probably passed from newbie (until you scare yourself silly on a patch of oil and realise how cocky you've become). My grandfather used to say you can't ride a horse until you've come off once or twice. Maybe the same applies for us bikers?

    1. - Who? (I'm probably too old).
    2. - Coke (the liquid kind - not much of a drinker)
    3. - The sheer exhilaration of speed. Did 195 once on a very straight, open stretch of road just to see what the XJ600 would do (came straight down again before the road ran out). BMW318i tops out at about this while the 325 beside you keeps on trucking (gotta love those Swiss motorways). Best kept for the track though these days in NZ - you're libel to lose the bike as well as your licence.

A newbie implies - being new.

    Wikipedia Says:

"Newbie" can be used as an endearing term to identify newcomers to a game, place, or organization. The variant spellings of "newbie" are also used, especially in online games, as a catch-all insult regardless of the recipient's actual skill or experience. Someone who acts like a "newbie," but isn't one would be referred to as one of the variant spellings.

Doctor Cox in the TV show Scrubs continuously refers to his protége John Dorian (J.D.) as "Newbie" as a way of breaking his spirits and constantly reminding him who's in charge (even when J.D. continues working at the hospital for over 5 years).

    ----------------------

When something becomes familiar then it is no longer new. But in motorcycle terms, it relates more to the level of ability, which doesnt really fit with the term "newbie" in my view.

There is always someone better than you, and always someone worse. The only benchmark for comparison being a complete lack of any knowledge motorcycle related.

Yeah, I certainly felt like a newbie after 13 years of not riding.

Comes from having a mildly scientific background and an academic for a wife.
