    Legal.....but

Hey - can anybody offer advice on this please?

I am considering racing a Ducati 750SS in Formula III. I see the regs say that if the thing is 2 vavles and not water cooled, only 2 cylinders and max of 750cc that it can be entered.

However also I note that the SV650 is legal yet some clubs, as is their right, do not let the SV650 race in FIII.

I certainly don't want to end up being bumped into FII on a 750SS, so don't want to get a 'classless' bike, but the simple SS's do appeal.

Anybody else raced them in FIII? Anybody aware of what AMCC's or Vic Club's stance on letting a 750SS into FIII would be?

    Thanks!

Your best bet is to ask the clubs directly.

Just pop off a couple of emails. That way if they say yes and you go and buy it and show up, you can rightfully be pissed off if they've gone and changed their minds on you.

How can the SV650 be legal - it's water-cooled, which according to your criteria is not legal?
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Up to 650cc can be with 4 valves and water cooling. 650cc - 750cc, only 2 valves and no water cooling....

I race a SV in F3 - it's only vic club that doesn't allow them at the moment - AMCC and PMC both allow them as per the MNZ regs. Hopefully vic club will see the light and let me race F3 next year.

Matt Meads races a Ducati F1 750 in vicclub F3 and he's currently leading the winter series championship so if you track him down he'll probably be able to tell you more about what's allowed.

Yeah good idea, should talk to the likes of Matt and AMCC etc.

I'm on a RGV250 at the moment and can kind of see Vic Club's point about SV650s (putting SVs up against 600s ain't fair either though!), but then again F3 needs to keep in miind that RGVs/NSRs and 400s are mostly all 10 years old+ now so what if you wanted to buy a new bike to go racing? SV is about the only choice I think...Ducati don't make the 750SS anymore....

    Yip

IIRC EU emission laws killed them off a couple of years ago.
