    Electrical problem got worse

well it all began when one day i turned on my bike started the engine and as i was riding i noticed that my headlight and tail light had blew the break light was ok, so i replaced the bulbs started her up and whaa ok then i gave her a few revs and the tail light blew again but the break light was ok, so anyway after about the 10th bulb it stoped blowing then all the light on the dash blew, well i thought i will leave them i would rather have a rear light than dash lights, after about a week i replaced all bulbs and whaa everything was working so i thought the problem must of fixed itself

about 2 weeks later i am riding down the road then the engine cuts out and all electrics have gone, get home and notice my fuse has blown(5amp) so i bought about 15 of them, so i make sure ignishion is off and as soon as i put the fuse in it just blows nothing is on but it just blows then all of a sudden i put a fuse in and it was all ok exept for the bike not sparking and the cdi unit started to smell so i replaced the cdi (what cost me £100) then it started up straight away so i took the stand off revved the engine then the fuse blew and so has the cdi unit

the coil is ok, its just the bike is blowing fuses and now it has blows 2 cdi units whitch cost £100 because they have a built in immobiliser
btw the bike is a 50cc peugeot speedfight that only takes 1 5amp fuse

    sorry for the long post

    Earth short?

You could put a nail across the fuse............ but that would be poor engineering.

Get a multimeter and trace the system following a wiring diagram looking for continuity etc to earth and voltage in the appropriate points.

i have phishically looked at the wires and they all look okay, i will get them tested but how would i know if the voltage regulater/rectifier was knackered may that have caused the problems?

You know its knackered if the connections in to it are charred and black.

Else if its putting out more than 15v at high revs then you might have a problem.....

    Hi
Here in NZ If you asked your local bike shop they would have probably told you it sounded like a charging fault - maybe faulty reg/rect without even charging you money.
Actually wouldnt it be cheaper to pay a shop to fix it and have your bike relaible again?

    Cheers

its started to blow the cdi's and fuses just with a little rev not much im going to buy a new loom cdi unit and voltage regulater and i hope that solves it because if it doesnt i will have no more money untill a few weeks

i think it blew the cdi anyway because when the fuse blew and the engine cut out it stopped sparking and the cdi unit gets verry hot,

also i dissconnected the battery and then when i reconnected it the terminals were sparking as soon as the wires touched them, the negative wire was allready connected and the ignishion was off, but when i dissconected the cdi unit then then i dissconnected the batery and connected it up again to see if it was still sparking the wire will be ok when it touches the terminal so there is something wrong with the cdi
