If you are losing a pair of cylinders, its likely a coil or coil wiring problem. Often one coil fires 2 cyls, wasting the spark on one of them as its on the ignition cycle. Check all wiring and earths carefully, but a new coil may be required.

Another possiblity is that the cdi pickup or igniter unit have packed it in. Not that uncommon. Lots of usefull info here- http://www.cb1100f.net/
wrap the plug leads in lots of electrical tape... see if it is the problem. The leads could be arc-ing if they are worn. Seen it twice, once on a kawasaki and once on a honda... both pre 1990 bikes though

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.
Try swapping 2/3 with 1/4 coil. This will help narrow the fault down to coils, leads, pick ups. Oh also drain the carbs. 2/3 may be carrying some water.
