Agreed!! And from what I saw on the news a couple of nights ago. Its another high earning, captive market asset, Manukau city council is going sell to overseas interests. Well what shares it has in it! So thay can squander the money then charge us more rates cause they've sold off their earning power???
On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!

'Life's Journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out! Shouting, ' Holy sh!t... What a Ride!! '

There's no figuring them out sometimes is there? I have friends who work at the Wellington City Council, I used to in the transport division and I can see where the rates dollars go; down the drain. Local councils learn from central government how to squander money and while I don't doubt that there are some great people in councils there are some right knob-ends too. It's a gravy train...........and while we pay and pay, we have little control over any of it. Vote this council out, then that one will take over..... and do just the same thing.

    Some of it goes to........

Aviation Security Service. For every departure tax paid a portion goes to AvSec for the security checks that they undertake. We all may bitch and moan about that, but like a helmet - its too late to wish you had brought a good one as you fly through the air towards that gutter etc.

After working in the industry (not AvSEc though) it is suprising what goes on. NZ is not a backwater were nothing happpens.

    Hope this helps.

exactly - a 747 doesn't pay a DEPARTURE tax (you do), and you don't pay an ARRIVAL (LANDING) tax (they do)

although you do really pay the landing fee, through your tickets, so........

Why not stand for council yourself?
It's only when you take the piss out of a partially shaved wookie with an overactive 'me' gene and stapled on piss flaps that it becomes a problem.
