What are the engine maintenance costs of a 50cc scooter?

I'm thinking of, say, a new Yamaha cv50 jog on a daily 10min commute in Auckland. What maintenance schedule would we expect? Like, plugs, how often clean and how often replace? Is there a choice of spark plugs for these scooters depending on riding style? And when and how often would you do a de-coke on these? And would piston rings replacement and bore inspection be part of an early engine preventative maintenance job? At what mileage? And what would we expect these sort of jobs to cost at a dealer?

    Thanks
    Brian

He/She can post it in as many forums as he/she likes. Whats it to you?

And on the scooter question just follow the maintenance schedule in the owners manual and you'll be ok. Maintenance on scooters is minimal. Run a good scooter oil if it's a 2 stroke.

Yes, well I'm approaching scooters from the other end - been biking myself, commuting on a 500 single over the Rimutakas, touring NZ rain or shine. But that was in my 20s and 30s. Now in my 50s I'm helping to advise someone getting into commuting. The gear looks good nowadays, the bikes fabulous. I gave up bikes for a couple of reasons, one being this annoying floater in one eye that will cover the macula just when I want to see far into the distance before an overtake. I caught myself saying 'Shit I can't see, but bugger it I'll go anyway'. Not a healthy attitude.

Thanks for your helpful comments 'davereid' (in the other forum).

engine running costs? 50cc scooter? Just make sure you feed the mice and oil their wheel from time to time

On a more serious note... keep it oiled, if it blows, just buy another one, cheap as chips.

"de-coke"ing is a thing of the past. Use the plug that it comes with and it should last nearly forever. Just keep tipping petrol into it and when the little light comes on put some oil in as well. If you but new just follow the initial servicing schedule for warranty purposes.
