Added to the fact that he has been doing it since 1987!

Best helmsman in the world maybe, still a turncoat that was lucky to even get mentioned over here. Hope his yodelling is coming along fine...

Gotta be one of the best AC races Ive seen! Can only imagine how TNZ felt following Alinghi round the top mark after the third leg. But they kept on them and did what had to be done!! Well done team.

Be thankful it's not Murray Mexted doing the commentary.

I think that it is really funny that Alinghi now says the race should not have gone ahead ... http://www.stuff.co.nz/4109844a10.html ... what would they have said if THEY had won!!

I never get this whole "turncoat" thing. Like, FFS, he's a professional sailor who got a really good job offer overseas. That's really all there is to it.

    AGREED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The dude is top of his game ad was recruited by another team FFS.

Either that or you better start including a large number of others as turncoats, kick all the Pacific Islanders out of the All Blacks etc etc etc.

Professional sports is about BUYING AND MANAGING TALENT. Nothing more, nothing less.

Interesting...to me it sounded like he was running out of ways to try to get Coutts to actually contribute something....

I think the three words you are looking for are "breach", "of" and "contract" in that order.

Too true. Who would turn down a $2 Million offer? Who are these Americans on our boat??? Are they turncoats?

Its not like it is an NZ boat... Emirates, Toyota, Telecom, let alone the crew... get over it, it is done. He will be back but I doubt it would be for NZ after the way he was treated. USA is my guess.

Not so sure... after the cup was won, everyone came off contract.... $2 million was not going to be matched by NZ... There is life after Coutts after all....

it was my understanding that coutts left because NZ wasnt going to listen to his way of doing things, then a impressive job offer came and someone who would do what he wanted...

Then was my understanding he wanted things done a certain way this time around and it didnt happen...

    who knows...
their all PROFESSIONAL and when you do somthing for money and somebody offers you 3-4 times what your earning would you stay with your same old?
