Because of the frequency of Telemarketer calls we get, we told all our friends to make sure they didn't have with held numbers, or they would not have their calls answered.

If a telemarketer rings me,I always let them go through the whole hard sell talk, then when they ask if I want to sign up or what ever I say 'oh, you want to sell me something, I thought you were another debt collector.'
You dont hear from them again.

So have I got this right... If I want to ring my tenants celly, who are avoiding me like the plague, if I dial 0197 and then their number, my number wont show on their phone (meaning they will answer???)

mmm I gotta try that one... I have fun ending the call in various ways Worst was when one rang back seconds later, saying "hmm it seems we were cut off, anyway...."

    "oh, you mean like this..."

I also may not answer my cell phone if the number is not in my address book - ie I dont know them.

I cant stand it when people turn up without being invited to my home, I find it very rude. If someone wishes to come over, they should call/text me first and wait for me to invite them. It is only polite in my view. But that is the English culture I was brought up on.
Maybe that's who the poor bastards are who are trying to call you and you don't pick up - friends who want to be invited to come and visit! BTW - do you HAVE many friends? Christ, if friends arrive at our place and it's not convenient, we offer them a quick cuppa to be polite and explain that we are busy - that's how most people with friends act!
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

Wifes cell phone number is hidden on my phone for some reason... we have tandem and she is obviously saved in my phonebook... but caller ID unknown appears when she calls... "could be someone I am trying to avoid?"

hahaha, was wondering when someone would voice that angle

If someone turns up then I will be polite and offer coffee etc and explain I am busy etc... however I was mearly stating that it is rude in my opinion. Not many people have my landline number - only close friends and family so I always answer my landline. Cell phone on the other hand... well thats been on the internet a few times... the blimin Queen could ring me if she really wanted too! hahaha!
