    KB "suicide" guide

or, How to Check Out of Hotel California

I've been a long time lurker since a mate at work put me onto this site. It's been quite amusing to see people try to leave, and the comments about hotel California etc. It really does seem to be an addiction for a lot of people.

So when my workmate approached me saying it was time to move on but couldn't stop logging in, I felt his pain and I offered him a solution. A way to check out for good. Well not for good as you can create a new handle, but it's adios to your long built reputation.

He took the advice, and came to see my yesterday to say how much work he was getting done, and suggested posting the steps on here. I'm picking it was as much of one last final stir as anything but I agreed. I know it will be controversial, and I apologise if it deeply offends any one. But some people are in need..... And I hope all spelling is correct.

So here it is. If you're being told "if you don't like it then leave" but you're finding you can't help but take that fix then read on. Take that final leap. But ask yourself, do you really want to take the blue pill........? Well, do you?

    Guide to KB suicide:

    1. Create a new email address. Use an internet service like hotmail, or gmail, or create an alias with your ISP via their website.
    2. Email address: make this a string of random letters and/or numbers. eg sdkfhw3dfifh3834@hotmail.com Write this down!
    3. Password: Open notepad or Microsoft Word and type a string of random letters and numbers. Highlight then copy and paste into the email address on your new email registration,
    4. Log into KB.
    5. Go to UserCP
    6. Click Email and Password
    7. Type in new email address.
    8. KB will send you an email for you to confirm. From your new email address, click on the link that is sent to you.
    9. Log into KB
    10. Under UserCP, go to email and password.
    11. Copy and paste your password from step 3.
    12. Log out.
    13. Close your email program, and throw away the email address. Burn the paper, eat it or flush it.
    14. If you used an alias via your ISP, delete it now.
    15. If you use the Forgotten your password feature, it will send it to the new email address for which you have destroyed the password.
    16. Turn off the lights, shed a tear, say farewell and go outside. Play. Socialise. Work.

Now may be a time for me to go underground.........

    Smart! That's good.
Except because I'm really addicted, I'd just ask my brother (also a KBer) to PM a mod and ask them to use my old email, password, etc. Doh! I wonder if a mod would ban me voluntarily if I asked.

Wow, I bet you sat at the front of the class?
To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

I'm addicted. It's an addiction I enjoy. It was affecting my work (seriously) but instead of 'leaving' I chose to manage my addiction. I restrict my use to lunchtime or outside of business hours. My email and internet use has changed completely compared to what it was.

1500 emails and 20% of my time was spent around KB. THAT'S an addiction!

I am writing this from home...
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the evening,
    we will remember them

Good grief man! Firstly...well done for going to the trouble of sussing that one out, but being blonde (and not that computer literate), it feels like far too much work really!

AND...I've stopped drinking, am in the throws of giving up smoking

So short of becoming Blimmin Mother Theresa (bless her heart!), there ain't no way I'm giving up on KB

I'm addicted, but it's my sanity

    I have 4 vices; I smoke, I drink, I swear, I KB.
Without these things I would probably go postal in spectacular style!

Pff, that sounds way too complicated.

Simply limit myself to 1hr web surfing per day and created a list which details the visiting order for that 1hr period ... thus it's been roughly 4 months since my last visit to KB land

If there are unread pages left over after that 1hr, Firefox goes into off line mode and I'll try to read them, without replying, before shutting the computer
90% of the time spent writing this post was spent thinking of something witty to say. It may have been wasted.

Hahhahhaha! So funny I should find this today! My wife says I'm hooked and she's gonna log in as me and do lots of dumb stuff! I'd be worried if I thought she could actually be bothered doing it but she'll crack up when I tell her about this. I did one time log out and start talking to her about final drive ratio's, she just kept staring at Greys Anatomy so I logged in again.

But really it is one of those things where time seems to warp a, that and I had a mindless job when I first found the site (it was lost? shiver me timbers!) and now I have to make do with a few hours a week here and there.
    Your all sick! Go home!
I'm selling my new riding gear!! Only worn a few times get a deal Kiwibikers!!
