Hey im just wondering what kinda price anyone would be looking at for buying a 1986? (not sure, around this age anyway) Yamaha RD350, Mint Cond, 16,000 on the clock, hasnt been ridden for a few years but my uncle took her and got her running sounds like a buet
So just reply with 'pretend' bids and i'll consult my mother, the owner about any good sales

Don't think it will be an 86 but stand to be corrected. Is it the LC, or aircooled? The LC is in demand for post classic racing (well so are the aircooled ones but the LCs especially) and a good sound one is worth reasonable money

Well it's a hard question but IMHO opinion (as a complete layman) if it was a mint registered serviced road legal concourse condition (you get the idea) bike to the right "collector" buyer it could be worth a few grand. But those guys are few and far between, and are (justifiably) fussy. If it's a shabby old heap of crap with rusty chrome and faded paint and dented tank and ripped seat and deregistered and not running (you get the idea!) it might be worth, at a guess, a grand or around that to someone as a project or a source of parts or the basis of a race bike. Your bike may fall somewhere in the middle...possibly??? Hard to tell 'cos there's so many variables.

Is it an original lc or does it have YPVS anywhere on the engine, in which case, it's a RZ350.
That would determine price and novelty value......
RZ's have more power and are supposedly easier to ride due to the power valves, since they broaden the power band a bit.
Either way, anything from a grand up.......

Jeez im learning New stuff about this bike all the time,
RZ350, 1983, LC, it has YPVS (i have no idea what that is) on the engine casing sorta thing from memory.
I wish i could ride it :S

RZ350 is a gem,but kinda on the cusp.The older enthusiasts will go for the old LC,the young guys won't know what an RZ is,just some old 2stroke dunnga.Tell ya what - I've only got 10 bikes at the moment,so I have plenty of room to fit another in - dollar per CC,sounds a bloody good deal to me,I'll even pick it up and sweep the floor where it's been - what'd I tell ya,I'm a great guy....deal??

A good LC or RZ up to $2000,
A nice 70s RD350 went for $2500 on trade me resently.
They were horrible bikes,used to eat CB350 Hondas for breakfast.

1983 puts it outside the pre-82 cut off for PC racing and it wouldn't be competitive in pre-89, so I think that works against it value-wise. A buyer is really looking at it only as a bike to ride, not as a potential race bike, and there are a lot of competing choices if you're looking at 20 year old road bikes. I would guess an RD350LC would have more value than an RZ despite the RZ being a more modern/better bike.
Having said that, I'd take it off your hands for...oohhh...say $1.10 a cc(sorry Motu...)

Just to add Confucius the RZs were sold in some other markets still called RD
My old ‘88 from memory was labelled RD but was a late model RZ350 YVPS with the full fairing. It was a stunning bike, I paid $2000 for it in the early 90s & had it for years. Sadly with the introduction of high aromatic content unleaded the days of the 2 stroke are probably a bit over. If you are going to be a student then an old 2 stroke is probably not a good idea.
What a neat bike they were though, wish you could buy a modern one, lighter than any 4 stroke making similar power could ever hope to be they were the true sportsbikes of the 80s. Sadly age has probably not done them well & you might end up with a wobbly bike in need of a few dollars to fix it up to former glory, only to have the crank kill itself as the rust build-up whilst sitting damaged the surface and/or the seals have gotten hard with inactivity/unleaded petrol.
Ignore all of above, offer a grand & keep pumping money into it as required, you can always leave uni & get a job.
Oh yeah & I had a '73 350 years before that & it was a pig, but probably only because someone over-tyred it.
