What a race, it's all over Rover

What a race the Americas Cup was. Had me glued to the TV in the warehouse, just on smoko time too. Thought it was all over then the Kiwis came back and then had to do that penalty turn and lost by 2 secs.
Time to put away the red socks until next time.
    Thats racing though

    Angry Ha

They definetley need a new tactician. There was easily 4 poor decisions in that race that all added up to loosing the race.

May the bridges I burn light the way.

...and the Gummint's gonna piss another $30M up the wall to do it all again. Why not give it to the A1GP team, they came second all on their own.

This was a professional event not a national team. I think the money the Government spent to 'promote' NZ could have been spent in a better way.

I agree with every thing said so far. Money should go into a truly NZ team. NZ have had there day in the americas cup. I think it's all a bit of a farce anyway, none of the teams is truly reprisenting their nation.

The stupid thing is that NZ did win... Alinghi's crew was full of Kiwis
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

I try not to slag this yachting event. But after all the overblown hype that was in the last one in NZ, I wish it would fizzle out.
Its not that I hate yachting. Far from it, the kids out in their Lasers, Optimists, and adults racing their yachts in foul weather have my total respect.(25knt + winds, sails hauled in,and storm wear on is TRUE yachting). And thats my point. Millions spent on a tub that can't sail above a sea breeze
What if the International Enduro Riders didn't compete in Taupo because the course was wet, and they didn't want to get their bikes dirty.
    Americas Cup....baah.... Wankers Cup.

I see the Government has just donated another ten mill for another crack.

Still it was a shity way to lose. National team or not. They are kiwis. Can't help but feel for them. They must be gutted. Perhaps ten mill might help to sooth a way the tears.

The Americas Cup has never been about "nationhood". Don't forget that for most of its history this trophy was "owned" by the New York Yacht Club. Then as now, it is a rich man's indulgence, with the exception of New Zealand's state-funded folly.

    Too true!
It is an embarrassment that the Emirates Team NZ challenge is the only one that is lauded as a national one.
I bet the Swiss people even know what the cup is.
And who is The Emir of NZ ,anyway?

And they didn't lose by ONE second. They lost 3 WHOLE RACES

    Question The tricky part is

that there is no way to show what the return of the spent millions by our Gov. is. They are telling us that it is a brilliant way to promote NZ and our boat builders. I would love to argue it, but nobody can give us some accurate figures, as there is none. Is the NZ boatbuldres getting more sales as a reult of the Cup or as a result of their own advertising or because they do such a bloody good job? Is it a combination of this and something else? What would have happened if we would not have spent the millions on the campaign? Hard to say. And thats why they can spend the money. They are the best bullshitters around and know how to turn anything to their advantage.

So perhaps the whole thing is a advertising campaign for Labour???

May the bridges I burn light the way.
