A row of sheds along pit lane would improve that place considerably

Me too, the loop is awesome

Be nice to have another track though, no such thing as to many race tracks!

Kinda cool looking, altho a few too many straights in the full track, the overpass would be novel. Always good to get another track in the sth island.

Looks a hell of a lot more like a vehicle test facilty than a race track to me. The layout is crap and way off what a new international 'race' track would be.

The drag strip straight into a fast left and then another straight will be well, hugely exciting or dangerous depending on your view on things....

Would that layout pass current FIM guidelines for international meetings i wonder....

Should make a great facility for testing cars though......

It's a brilliant idea in principle but apparently it is very difficult (I guess that means expensive) to make it safe because of how easy the overpass abuttments are to hit and how difficult they are to protect

In practice I highly doubt the oval part of the track will be used for racing. No runoff and also very boring from a racing point of view. The track used for racing will be the top half. Although it doesn't look that spectacular it will be another track to have a play on which can only be good for NZ.

I was going to say the same there, I think the oval is for testing etc and not part of the race track. it all depends how it turns out as to whether it's a good track, the plans for teretonga look somewhat boring and it's a good track to ride

At christmas I heard a story that Ruapuna was being shut down and a new track being built in the old quarry area. Was that true or just a fairy tale?

I would say its false, seeing the are about to to do a part re-seal... I doubt that work would be done if it was closing down soon after.

we had an action meeting from teretonga the other night and quashed the plans to keep the pits in the center of the track. (they had no provisions for garaging in their plans!!)
The thing with teretonga is it is owned by people who think racing datsun 1600's in clubmans is what the track should be used for, they forget the big picture. (forget the other 10-15 clubs that use the track on a much more frequent basis than the car club!, as well as the international exposure that is now making its way back to NZ motorsport)
I am glad at least some people had the foresight to come and vote for what they believe in!

Back on topic, another track so handy to here would be a good thing though.

Fulton Hogan want that land to quarry, they have offered to build a new facility in their old quarry, it will be several years before it happens (if at all)

For motorbikes I think the main reason it's poorly attended is the lack of organisation, the last time I was there it didnt start until about 11.30 and then we only got 1 practice (which I only got a lap of due to lack of radiator tape) and two races. When it had obviously dried out we didnt get any time to change over wheels either, so we were all finished by 3pm.

I like going to Teretonga but I felt that was a waste of money because I didnt get any time at all to make any changes or anything productive like that.

I'm sure their argument is that if there aren't enough people then no point running it properly, but it ends up being a cycle that will see no one turning up anymore I could be taken as a "bitcher" or people down there could understand the point I make, and help themselves out of this situation now that ive highlighted the problem (I don't know who to talk to about it so hoping my bit on here goes where it needs to...)
Good points there Tim,one of the reasons im not doing the Burt is,7 hours travelling for 20 odd minutes on the track including pratice last year didnt really turn me on,must be getting old......shame really, cause its a fun track to ride.Good luck to those that are doing it.
