    Oil change - FZR250

Ok I went into the city today and bought myself a new oil filter, tommorow I need to drain the oil and remove the exhaust and the panel in the picture to get at the old filter. Trouble is, I have no idea how to drain the oil on this bike. Take a look at the pictures attached and see for yourself, anyone know how to drain the oil?

I'm trying to remember, so i'm not sure, that the zeal (same engine) had a plug on the left hand side

Well, that would make sense, given that the bike leans that way on its sidestand. My VTR has the drain plug on the left, so it stands to reason that this totally unrelated bike has it in exactly the same place.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

With my FZR600 you have remove the exhaust system to get at the oil sump drain plug and the oil filter. Bloody bad design. Could yours be the same?

And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

I have a FiZzeR too. It is directly above the exhaust behind the gear lever 17mm (I think). I leave my exhaust on so as to not create more work for myself. Just required me to use some water soluble degreaser to get it clean!!
Could try running it down a piece of plastic to avoid this though possibly??? The oil filter is not tooo bad as long as your exhaust and engine are not too hot and mine has two pipes either side. I found easiest to lie on my back on the right hand side to get at these and I think are either 4 or 5 mm allen key screws x3.
Best of luck and hope that helps

Assuming your exhaust is similar it is fastened to the bike at (1) the rear (off one of the footpeg hangers) with one bolt, and (2) by another bolt under the bike around the middle of the system, both easy to get at. The headers are held by two bolts (allen head) per pipe, and on my bike are a bit tricky to get at so require a bit of patience. I used a ratchet and a short extension.Trickiest part is fitting the gaskets (you're supposed to fit new gaskets each time...but I didn't).After a bit of trial and error I found that the easy way was to fit the headers loosely onto the studs, leaving a gap of a cm or so, just big enough to push all 4 of the gaskets in to (it's not easy when you have fingers the size of saveloys, but it is possible!) and then push in and loosely bolt the headers into place. You need about 3 arms to do this because you really need to rebolt at (2) at this point or at least somehow support the weight of the exhaust. Afer that it's just a matter of bolting everything back up to the proper torque settings or (in my case) "firmly". My Taiwanese torque wrench is not trustworthy....

Hooray! I'm so glad I don't have an FZR! Dismantling the bike to change the erl?!? Whatever will those clever Japanese engineers think of next? And I thought having the oil filter on my Pajero above the alternator was bad enough!

Magua - just make sure you use synthetic or semi-synth if you drain the erl with the zorst in place, so you get a nice aroma when it burns off!
