    Helmet review

    FFM M7/ Nitro N 750v

    Shoei XR 1000

first up, as some of you may know, i suffered a rather harsh bin on Saturday, which was largely caused by another rider.
anyhow, my old Nitro N 800-V had given years of good service, cost me $180 3 years ago, the only downside is its weight.
So, off to Waikato yamaha to buy another Nitro...
$170 will get you the N 750V, but it turns out they are the same as a FFM M-7

so i try it on...they do me a super deal on the M-7, but i get that old sinking feeling....
i go for a ride straight out of the shop...and it all goes bad

above 80 kph the wind noise starts.....
at 160 is pretty damn bad, the right side of the visor wont shut properly either.
so i take it back, and they give me a refund.
off to boyd honda, and they try sell me on a fiberglass HJC..
i dont like the buckle on it (i prefer D strap)
the visor ratchet system has massive play, and by then, im well put off...and i dont like HJC.
    Enter the shoei XR 1000...
it fits well, its light, somewhat costly, but thats ok, and everything works.
so i went out to raglan at 4 am and tested the XR 1000 in the fog...and it was good, very quiet, light, easy on the neck, good peripheral vision..im sold.
i could have got the Raid II but the XR just fits me that bit much better.
and Sidewinder loves his Shoei XR 1000
see you guys on the road!

You're not really comparing apples with apples but with the shoei you'd expect the quality to be several notches above the sub $200 competition.

That Nitro of his, if branded properly on how well it was made, shoulda been in the $500+ range... it was a wicked helmet... I mean, come on... fibreglass helmet with wind damper thingy on the back?
