    Cold starting problem...

    Hi guys.

I'm looking at buying a bike right now (Suzuki Katana 250) that has a weird thing when starting.

Apparently to start it when cold, the trick is to turn on the ignition on for 30 seconds to 1 minute, then turn it over. If this is done, it'll start first pop. If not, it just turns over without starting.

Any idea what could cause this? Is it something to be worried about?

    Thanks!

it may have carb heaters, and that time is needed to heat up the carbs

Hey -I'm fairly sure it doesn't have carb heaters. Apparently old ignition coils could do this? Hmmm.

    Thanks for your reply though!

I would be measuring voltages at the coils. Could also crank from cold straight off and check for spark at plugs.

The last time I had to "prime" carbs was on a 1966 Ferarri 12 cylinder inline!!!!
