What's the go with geting chromed stuff rechromed.
The wing things that hold my head light are rusted slightly.
I can't buy new ones so I want these redone.
Anybody????

it's quite possible to go and get it rechromed at the electroplaters but it's quite expensive, I was going to get a whole lot of stuff done on my gn250 at one stage but opted for buying a less rusty bike for parts instead.
Cool better start pulling things apart then.Originally Posted by toads
Seeing as how my quick fix on the clutch didn't work,so bikes siting in shed for another eight days until ALL the bits get here.
Thanks.
depends on how good a job you want done the chrome only looks as good as the surface its plated on so ask if they polish the parts first or find someone who will polish any pitting or marks out of the bits to be plated, other wise you'll have chrome plated pit marksOriginally Posted by Jackrat

I think with parts that have previously been chromed they will strip the old plating first, then polish, then replate
You have options with the chroming as well, cheapest used to be just chroming the bits, most expensive was triple dipping, copper first, then nickle then chrome(I think thats the right order)better finish and longer lasting
Then look after it,we found waxing worked good and was what we recommended with chrome wheels

They have to chemically strip off the old chrome, and if the part is rusty/pitted they have to "emery" it till they get a smooth surface, then they plate over it (copper and nickel and chrome I think). If it's badly pitted you'll never get a perfect result anyway. Your options seem to be new parts, look at 2nd hand (stuff like that goes for a song on eBay), look at getting them abrasive-blasted and powder-coated black gloss or plate them. I did the powder-coating on an old KZ1000 Kwaka rusty headlight bowl and ears and the result was superb. I got only the chrome headlight ring re-chromed and the rest powder-coated black and it looked a million dollars. Very Bonneville-ish.

I had some stuff chrome-plated at that electroplaters next to AMPS, and I thought it was quite reasonable. Even stripped a whole BMX frame, took all the paint off and had that chromed.Originally Posted by toads

Used to work for these guys a million years ago. Give them a yell and see if they still do chroming. Got the rocker covers and bonnet scoops for my HT Holden chromed when I worked there and they did a fantastic job.
... and speaking of chrome, check out this link I was emailed this morning:

It's all in Japanese, so just click on one of the strange-looking links on the page.

Jack--Ill second the vote for the guys next to amps--pretty good plating and they do automotive stuff so they know what theyre doing.
