You're right... got this at work three years in a row... and it worked each time, although the formulas may differ slightly...

Worked for me too, which I guess should be expected considering every one else's result..I told the missus what my number was and she just laughed and walked off.....oh how sad my life is!

It'll work for any year if the magic number 1757 is adjusted appropriately.

Lets say the number you had in mind is "x".

In effect, the calculation is:

(twice the number x + 5) multiplied by 50 and then added to 1757, minus birth year.

ie:
(2*x + 5)*50 + 1757 - birthyear
= 100*x + 250 + 1757 - birthyear
= 100*x + 2007 - birthyear
= 100*x + age.

Ofcourse since x is a single digit number and age is a double digit number, the result will be a 3 digit number with x=1st digit and age=last 2 digits.

It may not work correctly if you are a old geezer 101 yrs old.
