Remote oil filters

One of my bikes dose not have an oil filter at all only a mesh screen.

Has anyone in there travles seen remote oil filters like thees? http://www.masclassics.com/vtwin/1045.php

It would go on the oil return line to the tank. if anyone knows a place in auckland would be good.

If you have a separate oil tank it'd be easy to plumb in, personally I'd be putting it between the tank and the engine working on the principle it's better to filter it before it gets to the engine rather than after it has been through it

I'd try some car shops that do aftermarket speed equipment

They have kits for old pommie wrecks like my Triumph and I now run a spin on external filter clamped to the seat post...

If you have a separate oil tank it'd be easy to plumb in, personally I'd be putting it between the tank and the engine working on the principle it's better to filter it before it gets to the engine rather than after it has been through it

A plus you may not have htought of is the increased oil capacity you will have.

Surprisingly remote oil filter kits are available from BNT and Appco iirc. You'll pay a whole lot less than if you get one from a speed shop.

If using a car filter, they are made for bigger and stronger oil pumps then what you find in bikes, so if you fit the wrong filter your pump might not be able to handle the additional resistance.

The reason filters that are fitted in line are done so on the feed back to the oil tank is so that if the filter fails you will not get a motor running out of oil. You will also find that most oil pumps that are used on bikes that does not have wet sump has a "bigger" pump for draining (returning) the oil. Therefore the return pump is the stronger of the two and better equipped to handler a filter.

Make sure your pump can handle a filter and still do its job.

And if you think about it, when will the oil be dirty? Coming from the tank or returning from the motor...
