FZR, the problems just keep flowing.

Ok I headed out to a friends house this morning before he was set to leave for Wellington. When I came to leave his house I clicked the killswitch off so I could start my bike and I heard this very odd noise. Killswitch on and off several times and I got the same response. Hrmm odd, I assume it is the exup configuring itself, it doens't usually make such a noise though. On the way home it had all the signs of the exup playing up, as I headed down glenfield rd the bike refused to rev past 6,000rpm in any gear. As I pulled over the bike stalled and refused to start (build up of pressure in the exhaust?). I have attached a movie of the sound and some photos of where it sounds to be coming from. I have a 2.14mb video of the sound but it appears that the limit here is 2mb.

Like a "click, click, click" really fast sound?

Its the fuel pump. Perfectly normal ...
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

If it's clicking like that, and you have no rpm, it could be a blockage between the tank and fuel pump, possibly in the fuel filter.

It could also be you have not enough gas in the tank and the fuel pump's trying to drag some more fuel into the carbies - try switching over to reserve.

AFAIK, the 2KR is not an EXUP model.

Not all of them, but some are. Fuel then, damn. This bike seems to suck straight through it with minimal riding. Thanks for the help Celtic

No, it's got petrol lines going in and out of it, I reckon.

Yup...and the power wires are a little small for a solenoid

Sorry to say this, but are you sure you havent run out of petrol? That is the normal thing that happens when you run out. Either that or the fuel supply isn't getting through to the engine.

Was definitely the fuel pump you were pointing at. I changed my fuel filter when I first got my bike and swear that it is only the second fuel filter ever fitted to the thing. It was SOOOO full of Sh*t!!! Could be that your fuel pump is struggling to push gas through with a really gunked up filter. The filter is definitely a CHEAP place to start too, as from memory I think it was only $10-16 or perhaps not even that?? :spudwhat: I cannot remember exactly but remember thinking it was pretty cheap as far as motorbike parts goes.

Just my thought. Though obviously you will have checked the gas?
Failing that I guess it could be the pump itself? My old Holden Camira I had once upon a time had a similar problem of running at minimal revs then all but dying. Upon putting an aftermarket fuel pump in I was happily on my way again.

    Tap

When the pump is clicking, it is pumping gas through it. If it keeps going, there must be a blockage somewhere stopping fuel getting to it. Start by looking inside your tank(clean if needed) and moving down the lines. If the exup is making odd noises, I hate to say.. But they often stuff out. You should be able to find s/hand bits, but the same will end up happening to them too. Depends how old they are.
    Good Luck!

Switched to the reserve and away it went, well not straight away. So is the fuel filter in that photo?

Hrmm, maybe I'll get a bikeshop to look at that one for me. When I pulled apart the bike the other day it was very hard going as a lot of screws were close to loosing their threads.
