    July flood

Well what fantastic weather we have had the past few days...

Lets just say... "we didnt even know a storm was coming"

Fat lot of luck when we had no tv reception....

By the time we were warned it had pretty much already hit... We didn't realize just how bad it was actually going to be...

On our back deck you could see huge waves rolling in on the main Bays beach... (I have decided that I DO NOT want to live right next to the beach anymore) The water was so brown, it was like nothing I'd ever seen before... All I could do was sit and hope that we didn't have some massive wave come and completely whipe us out... By the time I freaked out enough to decide I wanted to go back to my mums house it was to late.. Roads were being closed, and people were being warned to leave low lieing areas.. My partner barely managed to get home.. His car decided to try and float...

Power was going off and on... We were lucky at the flat.. Our power didn't stay off for to long.. Others had over 24 hours without power (my mum included)

The wind.. Oh my goodness the wind.. All I can say is "extremely scary".... It still hit the house we were in.. And hard.. It wasn't until Wednesday that I was able to see the full extent of the storm...

The aftermath..... Batches down the bay completely ripped apart... Junk everywhere..!!! Driving back to my hometown.. there were huge trees completely up-rooted.... Its.. amazing what mother nature can do.... Slips everywhere.. Barely a car on the road.. It was a weird feeling... And I was nervous, wondering what I might see... I made my way into town to find fire trucks parked up hosing shops out.. Army vehicles parked up.. And diggers working on a huge slip.. I drove past cars that had obviously been abandoned and had water go through them.. Choppers flying around..

There were numerous slips between my hometown and my mums place... People had been out obviously working hard to clear at least 1 lane on all slips that were blocking the roads...

I arrived at mums.. Shes lucky... Her cows just about drowned.. And her driveway to her house has washed away on one side.. Shes just leaving it for now.. Said there is people far worse off who need help nevermind a silly driveway.. and she is right... The flooding on her land rose higher than anything we have EVER seen before.. It eventually covered the whole main road and connected with the sea on the other side.. Amazing stuff!!!

We thought that our flood in March was bad.. Everyone has spent so much time picking up what was left of their lives, some were still doing so... To have it happen again not even a few months or so down the track is just devastating.... I don't really know what to think or feel...

My heart goes out to those who have lost everything for the 2nd time.. I'm thinking about those who have lost houses cause of landslips (knows one guy who this has happened to, and I have heard of another)

A huge thankyou to the Army for stepping in and helping evacuate those who needed to be..

And also a huge thanks to those who are working hard to bring power back on to our communities.. To those who are working hard clearing our roads again... You guys are just awesome..

the hardest part of this whole experience for me personally... Was the fact that I was not being able to get to my family to make sure they were okay..

    It absolutely broke my heart...

My well wishes go out to all who have been affected by the July flood...

My thoughts go out to everyone too. The photos in the NZ Herald were amazing and some of the stories were humbling!!! Have any other KBers been affected?

    Hugz to all.

Not sure what happened to Kerikeri itself.. But there is a few KBers in Kerikeri and Kawakawa area..

The house I was raised in as a child (my parents built it) was just on the news.. Chopper handing out supplies..

I'll have some photos once I get a film developed.. But it was taken the day after..

Mums got 1 picture on her digital taken in the morning (long before high tide) Will find a photo taken before as a comparison.. Doesn't even show it at its peak though..

Will post them when I can..

I had been watching it for a few days on http://www.metvuw.com/ as Mrs P had a trip planned to Maungaturoto to pick up all the little Ps from grandparent Ps on Wednesday.

Anyhow, I got her to leave early on Wed morning and she missed it.

    Crap huh.

    Lucky..

Honestly we didn't know.. Can't pick up tv 1, 2, or 3.. Had sky but the people who own the place were staying in the flat underneath.. They had sky on.. So the 2nd decoder my partners parents owned and paid for we were borrowing and hooking up.. They got the sky cut..
No landline.. Oh and 1 bar of cellphone reception if I'm lucky..
Oh and I only have internet when I'm at my mums..

So none the wiser.. All the more reason to move where we can actually have some of these things..
