Any lock-smith should be able to do it. They may not have the correct key, but that's where I would try.

You need to go to bike shop to get the blank key first. There's a place in Hamilton that does bike keys but can't for the life of me remember who they are. I've been meaning to get one done for my R6.

Might be the case but I have got most done through plain old locksmiths.

The locksmith at the top end of Barrys Point Road in by the mobil, just over the bridge, was able to do me a new Honda key after I gave him the barrel number from his little book of tricks so would give him a try.

My key was too worn to copy so he remade it as the original should of been of the master plans.

You may struggle to get a key cut for the R6, by your profile pic it looks like you've got a gen 1 R6 so it may be different...but from the '03 model on they have a little chip thingee built in that also has to be programmed with the correct code to make the immobiliser unlock.

Armstrong Locksmiths did a great job cleaning and rebuilding the ignition barrel (it was full of crud when I got it) and cutting new spare keys for the SRAD. They turned up in a van and did it while I had the bike in the driveway, too.

    Call them.

How much would a locksmith charge to cut a key? I have been having the same problem trying to get a key cut. Been to the bikeshop and they can send away for a blank and then I need to get that cut but looks like its gona cost around $30 for one key.

Armstrong Locksmiths, 0800 506 111. They're in Auckland, but they'll be able to tell you what it should cost.

    Call them and ask.

My ignition rebuild plus two keys cut was $250.

I went to the guy in downtown mall and he told me I'd have to go to a locksmith or bike shop. He said there is no way I can get a blank for my bike from a key cutter. Turns out he was wrong.

I went to the bike shop. They looked up my plate and chasis number and ordered a new key. A few days later, I went to get it but it didn't fit.

So I ordered a blank from them. A few days later I picked it up and went to Dr Shoe in the arcade at 170 Queen St. The guy had a look at my blank and then showed me a blank he had that was identical.

So it cost me $30 for the blank plus $8 for the cutting, when I could have got the whole thing at Dr Shoe for much less.

I'd say try Dr Shoe first to see if he has a blank that will work. Don't go to the guy in downtown. He doesn't know what he is talking about.

Crap what a rip in the north!!!
Phoenixgtr and I got our keys cut for $6-$7 each from a locksmith. No Mr Minit wont do it, it does have to be done by a proper locksmith. Took him 5 mins and those keys work way better than the origionals.

yeah I'll second Mr Chubb. Went to the one on Marion St in Wellington, imagine your newfangled Auckland-flavour Mr Chubbs can do the same kind of thing. Was no hassle at all so that was ok.

He needed the original Honda key though, but only cos it had a code stamped on it. Typed the code into the spangly key-cutting machine and out it came.
