    Hole in exhaust Gn250

I have a 5 year old Japan made GN250 with a hole in underside exhaust a couple of inches before the end can. Its about 1 cm in diameter. Should this result in performance lost as I can feel smoke escape through it. Are the GN250's known for this? The exhaust looks ok as whole so I am wondering if I should be looking at for more of these hole as the bike wears or is this a probable one-off, a result of a hit perhaps?

    Thanks.

Sorry ... but the words GN250 and Performance don't belong in the same sentence.

Having said that ... A hole in your exhaust is never a good thing.. any idea what caused it??

Well, when you've only got 20-odd horsepower, then you certainly don't want to be throwing any away.

Sometimes people drill holes in exhausts about that point to drain water out, to prevent rust from occurring (which causes even bigger holes!). Does it look like it's been drilled on purpose? 1cm seems pretty big though. Or is it caused by corrosion?

I seem to recall having one in my '06 ginny from factory for drainage... are you sure it isn't that?

Either replace the muffler or a good (VERY good) exhaust welder will be able to weld a patch on.

With my new project, Project ZZR.I found one of the rear mufflers had a hole about the size of a old 50cent peice in it. I just got out the mig and drip feed the weld into the hole untill I had a good sound surface to work on then I wound up the weld feed and pad a good pool. It worked purrrrrrfect with out any real blow holes or anything. With a quick buff with the angle grinder she good as new.

Give it a go mate, if you have a mig that is or if ya dont try Pit Stop (youve come to the right place remember) or local bike shop.
