    Sack Benson-Pope

I'm getting pissed of with this arshole. And for me to get pissed of with Labour Minister has got to say something for those that know me on here. This tosser should be kicked out of Parliment for not only for lying to the public, but for actually believing that we the public will believe him.

As for Helen Clarke I generaly have some time for her political nouse but backing this loser I'm relay begining to think that she has lost the plot.

So what's KB opinion on this sorry saga of having a government emplee sacked just becasue she is in a relationship with a National Party employee.

Yep, I have no idea why Helen backs him, he's a huge liability for Labour, I don't know what she's doing. He should have been dumped over the tennis ball thing.

Well, I was waiting for this to be aired but would have lost money on who might be the one to raise it!

Big ups to you Skyryder, he is such a loser and a liar, he is certainly bringing the other apples down to his level.

This post lifts you up in my book, so there's a nice wee bouquet for you. (I know you wont sleep now for the excitement of that!)

Regardless of which party, Benson Pope's behaviour is completely out of order.

This would never have been tolerated in the "good old days" of politics. Cheers John.

A few years ago, Stromfrau's cousin worked as Private Secretary for the leader of the opposition, while his wife worked in the Prime Ministers Department. Both were closer to the repective leaders than in this present debacle, yet there was no political interference at all. Both were astute enough that nothing untoward was ever passed on that shouldn't have been.

So, we can only conclude that the present sacking was purely for political reasons, and not because of any government or departmental policy.

A political reporter was discussing this on the radio. He was saying Benson-Pope and Helen are personal friends.

They did good spotting the Egyptian Palace plot to destroy the Labour Empire from within. But it was untidily dealt with, and for that one should get booted.

PS are spin Drs required to pledge allegiance and votes to their payers? That would make Sedgleys house politically Swiss.

She should ditch the incompetent fool faster than a man to a donut shop....

BUT, she can't. labour are desperate for all the seats/votes/"representatives" they can muster, and if Unkle Heilen gives him the heave, he will possibly threaten to become an independant.

There are some questions that haven't been answered by this particular case, such as what does this mean for professional communicators who have partners/spouses employed either by opposition political parties or the media? Are such people now wasting their time applying for roles in Central Government? The Right Honorable The Prime Minister clearly believes this to be so, with her comment yesterday that Madeleine Setchell's application should never have been considered by the Ministry for the Environment in the first place.

Another issue is what is to happen with people already employed by the public service with such credentials? Are they to be exited for conflict of interest?

The non-politicisation of New Zealand's public service is one of its core principles, enshrined in a variety of documents such as the Public Service Code of Conduct (www.ssc.govt.nz). Unless this matter is resolved quickly, all of this hard-won principle will be torched, thanks to a meddling Minister and a soft-cock chief executive.

On a related matter, I have had the privilege of employing Madeleine Setchell earlier in her career. She is an outstandingly professional and competent senior communicator and a wonderful person in all regards. She does not deserve any of the angst and aggravation associated with the mandarins of the public sector silently closing ranks in the spineless way they always seem to do in such circumstances. Madeleine deserves better. The citizens of New Zealand deserve a proper explanation.

Unfortunately much of politics is not "media based" i.e. doesn't receive the harsh glare of public scrutiny that it possibly should.

I don't mind people who say they're not interested in politics, on the proviso that they never ever pass judgement on or complain about government, the state of the nation or their community, and their elected representatives.
