Tyre choice. 95 Daytona.

After peoples suggestions for tyre replacement on my 95 Daytona.
Pirelli Diablo's are coming off. Average road riding, with an ocassional spirited effort. Definitely not a racer. 120/70 17 fr, 180/55 17 rear. $550ish to spend.
Avon storm? Diablo Strata? etc

Have tried Dunlops, Bridgestones and Michelins but not Pirelli or Metzler tyres so not totally objective.

I have Bridgestone Battlax 010's on mine. They were one of three Triumph 'approved' tyres, the others being Pirelli Dragon Evo and Metzeler MEZ3. So far I've found them to be rock solid both wet and dry and they're wearing well, but I've only done 3000 kms so far. Good luck

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm not stead fastly committed to any one brand, and now I have some choices.
The Daytona will be back on the road in spring with nice fresh suspension front and rear thanks to Robert. So best I give it brand you feet too.

I'd definately go Diablo Strada or even try Metzler Z6's, have run both on the KTM & both bloody excellent tyres. Did do the odd spirited ride on both sets. Saying that, nothing wrong with M3's, people tend to over rubber their rides. @ present I'm running a Diablo front with a Diablo Strada on the rear & alls good !

go pirellis mate i run diablos on my hayabus they are a bloody good tire.i have had dunlops and bridgestones and those dont get near the grip the pirellis have in the dry and the wet .would not go back go a jap tire brand again

I must admit, the Diablos that have been on it never gave me a major worry. Although i did feel a bit nervous in wet conditions ocassionaly. That may have been down to the god awful suspension work a so called Race Tech expert had done. And the horrible Hagon shock.
Would the Strada be a better choice for an ageing plodder, or would they be a bit too touring related?
The wear pattern seems a bit strange also. More to do with my suspension, an nervousness because of the former possibly.

Once you've got your suspension sorted go with the Strada, awesome wet or dry, & if they hang on for spirited rides on the KTM I'm sure they'll do just fine for you

Try the new Michelin Pilot Road 2 (dual-compound jobs).


I've been very happy with the Pilot Road rears on my Trumpy, running Pilot Sport fronts. Discussion 'round the barby after today's RAT ride - the new dual-compound Road front handles better than the old Sport - this from a quick Daytona rider.

Just traded a Sprint RS on a scrambler. Ran Avon Azarro then switched to Pirelli Strada. Both tyres were excellent . Strada's seemed to steer quicker , they were better in the dry , the Avons felt slightly more planted in the wet but it is all pretty subjective seat of the pants stuff , they were both damn good with the Stradas shading the Avons for feel when pushing in the dry.
How are the Contis going on the chook chaser , I'm getting close to new tyres ,Kerry at Motohaus gave them big wraps ,do they hold on when pushed either wet or dry.

The TKC on the front gets the thumbs up. Be a bit cautious in the wet, but they are fine in the dry (and way superior in the gravel compared with the trailwing).
The rears a Metz Sahara, and is doing the bussiness.
Went to sort out the Daytona tyres today, and left a bit confused. I was told by one shop that the Michelin's are poor performers, (and hes a agent for them,). Didn't look like I would cut a deal with them, so will keep shopping. No real rush.
