Lots of adults buying the book in the shopping centre today - I saw one woman reading it while waiting outside the supermarket. No scenes of pandemonium which was a bit disappointing!

You can argue that the books are the modern equivalent of Enid Blyton, but I don't care. The storylines are engaging and they have got heaps of kids ( and some adults) reading who wouldn't otherwise have been interested, so it's all good from my point of view.

Best modern kids fantasy books - Philip Pullman, His Dark Materials trilogy. Effin brilliant!!

Phillip Pullman wrote those quite a while ago didn't he? A trilogy i think. The Northern Lights, Subtle knife and another that I can't remember? Or am i way off track?

And yes Phillip Pullman is an awesome writer!

Yes, they are about 10 years old.
The movie of the golden compass is out next month I think. It looks like they've done a great job. Fingers crossed, anyway.

I haven't read any of his other books.

I'll buy HP for the plane ride when I come back to NZ next month. That'll keep me busy.

My wife msg'd me at 11:01 to say she had her copy from the bookstore. She is now up to page 277.

Personally, I'm going to read the last chapter and wait for the movie

hahaha, this is so sad... I personally thought the 1st two movies were utter crap, and I don't plan on watching the 3rd, and since people who liked the book raved about the movie, I don't even plan on reading the back of the covers on any of the books... HARRY POTTER IS A STUPID!!!
Ps. is this scene in the book/movie?
