    Clunking forks?

just rebuilt forks on my gb 400. now they make a fairly solid clunking noise about 4cm down. i put some packers in because the springs are a bit sad. don't think this would screw with it too much. maybe wrong? anyone got any suggestions?

remove packers, remove 'sad' springs, insert new springs, enjoy.

Longer packers! (pretty sure George Michael has cried that out before .......)

As above - get some decent springs - not expensive as bike bits go and well worth it.
