    Fixing the NZ250 - Help!!

    Hey guys.

Took the bike into a shop today to get a quote for how much it would cost to fix... and wasn't impressed with a. How the guy dealt with me, b. The price he quoted me to get everything fixed, and c. The way he implied my bike wasn't worth fixing. Wasn't very impressed with that. Sure, it may not be a new or exotic bike, or even water cooled, but I'm the only one who's allowed to give it shit. See ya later, I'll take my business elsewhere.

Anyway, all that aside... as either way I need to get my bike fixed... I'd like to ask for a little assistance. I need to get three things done by a shop as I can't do them myself - fork seals, new brake shoes for the rear brake, and a new rear tyre - but there's a few things I can do myself with the help of others... if you're willing to help I'll supply the beverage of your choice, perhaps some take aways too!

I can ride the bike to you as it is rideable at present - I just can't select 1st gear at the moment.

There are only a few things left that need doing side from what the shop will do, and they shouldn't be too tough. I need a new clutch lever to replace my broken item. The guy at the shop quoted me $20 for that which seemed fine, but I should be able to get the same or similar price at another shop. I'll fit it myself... with an assistant if possible so I don't screw it up!

I need a new pair of indicators for the rear end. The pair I did have on there weren't the factory originals - these were replaced by Sportzone Suzuki for the paultry fee of $30 - so again I think I should be able to get another pair for the same price. Assistance fitting these would be great - I think the wires connecting them might well be too short now that they've been sheared off on the left hand side.

I need to straighten the gear lever so it will clear the linkage, allowing me to select first gear. Pretty self explanatory that part.

The rear plastics are broken, so I need to get these repaired or if they prove too damaged, replace them entirely. Not sure how easy this part will be, but I'm hoping someone will be able to look after me on this one!

Front brakes could use bleeding and new fluid too, but that's not right at the top of the priority list.

    So yeah... help?

The shop you went to... well dosnt suprise me, now try Street n Sport, unfortunatly its not worth a lot of coin, so depending on the damage (I havnt seen ya arse up thread) it will cost more than the bikes worth... its who ya know not what ya know.
Best bet... find one at a wreckers.
    cheers DD

If you are looking for a reason to travel up to HB...

    Here it is:

Ride her up and bring a bottle of JD (I supply the ice and Dry) and we set her up. I got the bits U need here.

But I suppose U will find someone locally.

Oh and to the "mechanic" who spoke down to your bike. I guarantee he rides a chink scooter to work and has one of those jap cages that goes "chooock" when he changes gears to impress the school girls.

May the bridges I burn light the way.

    What?

He's a KBer? Then he'll know who I am. If he reads this: I was impressed with how enthusiastic and willing to help he sounded on the phone... pity it was quite the opposite in person. Poor form mate, even if I do turn up 10 mins before you're due to close.

I wouldn't expect so. Funny bunch down here (yeah, looking at you D ). Might take you up on that offer yet! Though HB is an awful long way to go on a damaged bike.

Check your PM young fella & direct your quote at the correct post next time

I can do you indicators, lever (if its that or the actual perch also) for zip
Forkseals & oil just the cost of said bits (maybe$40-50) and a bit of time doing them, the gear lever is a piece of piss but to be done properly needs to come off the shaft

the tyre you're best off to go to either pitlane or budget

the bodywork mmm? let's have a look at how bad it is (piccy) it's either a case of sourcing 2nd hand parts or fibreglassing depends if you've got all the pieces of the panels and there isn't anything completely shattered.

Yeah, realised after your PM that it could have looked that way. Would edit it, but it's too late for that now I guess! Ah well.

Mate, legend, I'll happily take you up on that offer if you've got the time to make it! I know you're a busy boy... but as soon as you've got the time I'll hoon on out, I want my bike back! LOL. I'll happily pay for all the bits and supply you with a bottle of a refreshing beverage of your choice. I think I know what you might choose though...

Whoever deserves my business most will get it. I was thinking of using cycletreads... or is it street and sport? It's the place we bought the brake pads at last time anyway... for the rear brake and was gonna get the tyre there at the same time. But yeah, I've learned it's probably best to take it where you point me...

It's not too bad I don't think, but really I don't know. I'll take a pic for you tomorrow if you want, but it prob won't show the extent of the damage very well. Still. I'll take it tomorrow if the weather plays ball! Still haven't taken pics of it since I binned.

    Cheers mate, you're a legend
