I’d forgotten how heavy the outfit is to load but Friday night soon reminded me.
Divvo had changed the gearing and the front camber and then backed the trusty turbo charged intercooled Transit vangina (which would kick Scrivys vans arse) up to the garage and we loaded up and were good to go
I was staying over at his place the night so as soon as I was in the bedroom allocated to me and had searched it to make sure he wasn’t hiding anywhere in it I hammered a wedge under the door and dragged the dresser over in front of it so I wouldn’t have to fight off his predatory sexual advances during the night, I'm not so sure that really was the cat clawing at the door during the night
Up early and on the road and it’s looking a bit miserable, the abusive txt are flowing thick and fast with the Macefield Brothers sending us all sorts of uncouth remarks
Arriving at the track and there’s a cue of cars ½ a km long as the gates weren’t open at 7.30 as they should be, finally just after 8.00am someone turns up with the keys and we pull in and start unloading, after unloading we wander off to sign up, about 30 minutes in the sign on queue we’re finally through and riders briefing comes and goes
Practice
It’s been 4 months since we were last out and I’m feeling very clumsy as I’m trying to get used to it again, my timings a bit off on changeovers, and I’m very out of shape, and when you consider we aren’t trying very hard it’s not looking good for the racing
Race 1
Handicap start with Alex and Bill going off before us and the Macefields, Divvo lights it up on the start and as we hit turn 1 the Macefields go around us, turn 2 and onto the straight and we go back past them, they’re trying around the outside of the hairpin and then they miss a gear and we’re back in front ,by lap 3 I’m fucked and looking for a white flag, , the Macefields are back in front and we’re coming up to the Newtons, the Macefields pass them after the hairpin and we get them after the left before the chicane, I miss my footing through the chicane and have a “ah fuck I’m off” moment but more good luck than skill I stay on, I’m not feeling to good and think I’m going to vomit in my helmet, my heads flopping around like a nodding donkey and I just want it to be over , down the straight and we pass Alex and then the Macefields who take us back off the end of the back straight and promptly run off the track, they don’t bother slowing down and rejoin a couple of inches in front of us and lead us to the flag
I swap leathers with Divvos spare set before the next race as I think I’ve had to many pies in the last few months and mine are a bit tight around the shoulders
Joni has been kind enough to make and bring us a down a awesome bacon/egg pie so me and Divvo hook into that
Race 2
A bit of swapping around and I’m going out with Goober and Pig is on with Divvo, we’re all a bit puffed after race 1 and decide to play about a bit, Alex is leading with the rest of us in close quarters, pulling alongside, passing and being repassed, Pig is just about going off in his pants after experiencing Hayabusa power when Divvo winds it up down the straight and is having trouble changing sides because his erection is getting in the way, we hit the front with Divvo/Pig right behind us and stay that way to the line
Race 3
I’m back on with Divvo, Pigs with Alex and Glens with Goober, Goobers lighting it up and through the middle of Alex and Bill before Turn 1 while me and Divvo get blocked in behind them, we hit the straight and get it cranking and close down Goober/Glen, we’ve got enough power we can pull alongside, give them a waveand accelerate away, Goober goes past us off the end of the back straight, we swap places for the next few laps and we take the lead with a lap to go, Goober/Glen are right behind us off the back straight and I’m expecting him to pass us as he’s very fast off here but he cocks up a gear change and everyone else passes him instead, we’re trying some different lines in this race in a couple of corners and they work a lot better, more corner speed and it makes my job a bit easier as well and we stay in front till the chequered flag
Racings over and we’re packing up and talking shit and Pig is a now a firm believer in “bigger is better”
A great meeting, and although there were a few crashes there where minimal delays and the club got through the whole program, and also thanks to Joni for driving down to support us and bring us pie and for shouting tea later on, what a top Lady
