    Maverick 250 ride 5/8/07

    Greetings 250 riders,
For those who were not riding last year, Myself and McJim organized a series of rides aimed at 250cc riders who were on their learners or restricted licenses.
The goal was to provide a safe but challenging environment for newer bikers to learn skills and gain experience on the open road and to meet other bikers at a similar level.

This ride will be a nice run out through the country, with a lunch stop on the way, more details to come shortly.

It is not "limited" specifically to 250cc bikes, (previous "graduates" and others are more then welcome) but please be aware that we will be going at a sensible pace.

STARTS BP BOTANY DOWNS (CHAPEL RD) 10AM SUNDAY

If you want to sign up for the ride to be sent details you can do so here:
    http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/ca...8-5&e=1331&c=1

I hope that we will see a few old faces and a few new ones,

    Mav

UPDATE: A few people have asked "how learner friendly is learner friendly"
A few general guide lines that we suggest are: (in descending importance)

    1) You be comfortable riding your bike in a variety of everyday traffic situations.

    2) You have a full set of protective gear. You learn by experimenting, sometimes people push too far, Good gear can make the difference between getting up and riding on and calling an ambulance.

    3) You are confident and comfortable with your bike and could theoretically ride comfortably at 100kph if the situation required you to do so (not advocating breeching license conditions, simply illustrating confidence and skill levels that would be safe for open road riding).

    4) You know how to use engine braking to help slow your bike before entering corners

    5) You have ridden on wet roads and in the rain before.

W00t! Time for the rides to arise phoenix like and hopefully dispel the winter blues away! Will be there with bells on, a dictionary for the spellink and a blue hi-vis vest for the UN like line we have to tread!

Crikey! I didn't know how to do this here Calendar thing ... guess I need to work out this feature to avoid more un-necessary hulla-balloo when trying to make the good peace riding for the perfect understanding of newbie, small cc rides!

Would this be starting out east, at some ridiculously early time of the morning?

I'd be really keen to get out on a 250 ride. I kept meaning to go last year but had a problem with the early start, and how the start was on the complete opposite side of town.

That would be because all the good roads are on this side of town.

But we're happy to share 'em with you...

The start time will be about normal of 10am, which isnt really that early. If you leave it any later then a) you dont get lunch at lunchtime, and b) you dont get back till later.
