Westie, I have been raceing a stock ZXR 400 1989 model for the last 5 years, Frosty and i have had some good races together when he had his, listen to what he is saying.
Do the small mods first and until you can ride the wheels off the thing (flat out everywhere)dont spend money on high cost performance bits.
I went down that road, spent a lot of money for nothing, dynos jeting etc for very little gain, put the bike back to stock more relieable, i race it park it and race it, change oil and filters once a season and a set of tyres and thats it,
as someone has already said get out on the track and learn the bike, and your skills against other riders.
I have won races on it, it is still reasonably competitive without spending a lot on it,and most of all i have one hell of a lot of FUN on it, thats the important bit.
Cheers bud and good luck![]()
Sure thing rustys I was over there tonight he is a good fella definately.
I will take all advice given. Really keen to do with this bike what I meant to do with the last one. Once the front end is sorted and I have a fairing then I'll be there at the track.
Can you tell me what club to join if any and when or where to check out the racetrack times/events?
Cheers

Hey Westie,
Have you got a full workshop manual (H model base manaul and L Supplement)? If not download one from www.zxrworld.co.uk
As for clubs to join. Why don't you tag along with a few of the people that have replied on this thread, like frosty or nicksta and visit the Auckland club. You'll meet good people who will be happy to give you advice in F3
Cheerio
Eric
Hey thanks for the manual. I didn't have one, was flying blind. But I have had two zxr 400s before(rebuilt one out of two wrecks)
Green mash!
Yea I have been poked in the ribs to join the vic club. I better check them out soon. Its all happening a bit quick really. I havent even got the thing on the road yet.(damn forks)
Almost there but I need a front fairing and maybe a horn for passing?
Cheers

Westy. Get thyself to a trackday or three before jumping into racing.
To see a life newly created. To watch it grow and prosper. Isn't that the greatest gift a human being can be given?
Sound advice frosty and nic, thanks.
More do and less talk from my end needed.![]()
