Next on the list is a decent pair of boots.

    What should we be looking:

    1. Price wise
    2. Manufacturer
    3. Style
    4. what not to buy
    5. Aything else

    Cheers in advance.

The best thing is to go around shops and try lots on and see what you like. As with any other gear, see if you can sit on a bike to see how they feel.
I've got a pair of Sidi "Rose" boots. I really like them, they are really comfortable (even for walking), waterproof, and under a pair of jeans they look like ordinary black leather boots.

I agree. One thing to add. Comfy or not. And what will you use them for?

I just bought a pair of Sidi Strada from Cycletreads for $300 - and I'm a very happy camper! The price is low because they only have a few pairs / sizes left, so jump in. The retail at Colemans is $400, which is still not a bad price for good boots (signed Dave C using Klingon's logon 'cos I can't be bothered logging off and then on again as me!)

    As a related question:
Last time I rode a bike I just wore steel cap Caterpillar work boots. These are pretty solid and cover to just past my ankle.

Obviously proper bike boots would be better but by how much and why?

    Biggish foot

I got some highish steel cap work boots. They are surprisingly comfortable and go past my ankle so I like them. Only down side is the time to lace.

I tried to get some bike boots but I couldn't find a motorbike shop in Auckland has my size (13). I don't think my feet are that big. The bike shops all said they could get some in but then what if they do and I don't like the feel and fit? Do I keep going back and asking them to get some more in?

Hard armour? easy to walk in? grip on sole for the road, or flatter for ease of moving food on pegs? waterproof?

don't wear boots with laces you'll catch them on the pegs or stand and fall over sideways like a nob.

fuck i need to replace my boots theyre a bit manky thanks for reminding me i might use the interweb dohaaky wheres this google favo

I got a pair of these for $300:

Being a daily rider I mainly got short because I wanted something I could walk around in if I say rode to a party or something. I still have a pair of shoes at work but often leave my boots on if I'm going for a lunchtime ride.

I figure they're a good compromise between total protection and wearability that means I'm going to be wearing them if I bin rather than having them safely at home in a cupboard.

If I'd got a full length boot I know I'd be tempted to just wear shoes on shorter rides or if I knew I'd be walking around in them. I will get full length for longer rides at some stage as well though.

The other thing was that the Diadora boots just fit my feet really well. I'm sure boots are like helmets in that way. I'd say you'll need to try some on if you want a good solid fit around the ankles that doesn't hurt. Try to get on your bike with them to check how they clear the controls etc.
