A new toy arrived by UPS last night.
I ordered it a while ago, as a present for someone who left a somewhat more metaphorical knife in my heart immediately thereafter.
My collection of pocket folders has, therefore, just grown by one.
It's a Kershaw Rainbow Leek. Handle and blade of Sandvik 13C26, plated with titanium oxide. I've always had a soft spot for 'rainbow' knives made this way, and finally I own one!
Ken Onion's 'assisted opening' design (activated by pressure on the small knurled knob at the top of the handle) is gorgeous in its simplicity and effectiveness. This is the fastest-opening knife I've tried yet.
I'm surprised, in fact, that the sprung action doesn't qualify it as an auto ('switchblade'). I had no difficulty importing it. Perhaps the fact that the blade rotates out of the handle rather than springing straight forward is the differentiator?
As you can see below, that highside on SH16 two weeks ago means that I won't be using it left-handed for a while!
I don't plan on carrying this one, though - it's not a boy's knife. It will live in its pouch in a drawer, awaiting a worthy bearer. It will, however, be granted the usual baptism in goat's blood in a couple of week's time alongside my new Norinco M305.
I'm quite tempted to betray my Spyderco loyalties and add a Kershaw Storm to my collection very shortly, which definitely will be on the daily carry rotation. Any other Kershaw fans out there on KB?
