Insurance?

i have looked for a suitable forum but i cant find one so here goes.


a canadian mate of mine is coming over for a couple of weeks holidays in 2 or 3 months and i would like him to be able to use one or both of my bikes while he is here.


only thing is, is he will be on a canadian license, so will i be able to insure him on my bikes for this time?

First, he will have to be licensed to drive in NZ to be covered by insurance. I would have thought he would probably need an International Divers License for that.

Second, depends on who you are insured with and the set-up of your policy. Some policies only cover the insured rider. If that were the case, you would have to apply to have him added and to do that you would need him to complete a driver declaration or the declaration part of a proposal. Otherwise just inform your insurer that he will be riding...just to be safe.

check with your broker/insurer.....
make sure your buddy gets an international licence before coming here for sure....

not a chance! they wanted 1200+ bucks to insure my bandit!!! im paying 711 bucks for it with another company!

the other reason i am asking is if anyone else has had experience of doing this. i have never needed to put anyone else on my insurance before so i dont know what is really invovled!

Just a quick point - when I went to Canada they (the local Authorities) told me to use my Kiwi license. Some reciprocal deal or another.

Best bet - check with the AA for reciprocal thingies, get mate to get a "claim free" declaration from his Canadian Insurance Company (presuming he is claim free). And last but not least tell / ask your company.

It will be fekkin wierd though (for him). The first couple of times I did a left turn on the "wrong" side of the road I nearly gagged. A bike will probably accentuate the wierdness.

dude if your policy allows another un-named rider and he has a full weirdo-country license then he can ride your bike. but seriously dont take my word for it do check with your insurer. they wont say no if it is allowed, and if it turns out he is excluded and crashes then your more fucked than michael jacksons nephew.

there are a whole bunch of countries that u can use their license in nz for up to a year. i'm pretty sure canadadada is one of them and i'm fairly sure he should be at least insurable.

It would depend on how much French blood he has.
If there's any trace of it, give him a bus ticket. To Iraq.
