Not to single one quote of many claiming all people who don't wear gloves are brainless, but did you wonder if perhaps we don't do it to torture other riders? I only sometimes wear gloves mostly because I find my hands sweat up a storm when I am wearing them, even in average temperatures. I should get some more ventilated ones but I haven't had time yet.
Smoke 'em if you have 'em

    That's so tragic it's funny.

I once read that the average person is not very good at risk assessment. It's reportedly not uncommon (in the USA) to meet smokers who are worried about terrorist attacks.

    Hallelujah!!!

Praise the Lord and send the little bastards back to school to learn something.

    Anything. For pity’s sake.

I just had to throw this in. Taken after a 160+ kmh test ride on a wet Wainui hill.

I hope you are not still wearing it. That photo was taken in 1981. We were tougher back then.

May I point out that the star is not me - I am much uglier.

Did the helmet have 'NOOF' written in black enamel across the back of it?

    If so, I have it!

I've seen LOADS of people riding around in full leather kit, minus the gloves. It doesn't make me angry or encourage me to start beating my chest, yelling out various inane pro-ATGATT slogans in an half arsed attempt to save myself a few bucks in ACC levies.

Simply it boggles me. I just don't see the logic.

Yep, in August/September last year I rode a kajillion miles at times (and long times) at 90mph (150kph) wearing fingerless gloves, a shorty helmet (only for insurance puposes), jeans and chaps, a long-sleeved shirt, a denim sleeveless jacket (with a 'NZ' and a silver fern on the back) - and a pair of Foster Grants.

    And I didn't die.

But the roads were better, the other drivers/riders behaved a shit-load better than NZs drongos.

I was watching TV the other week, one of those NZ cop type shows, they pulled over a guy on a green bike. A comment was made that he was not wearing gloves, I can't remember what was said but the feeling seemed to be (from the cop) that as he wasn't wearing gloves, that the guy maybe dodgy. Basically the only safety gear worn was a helmet.

Did anyone see this? I found it interesting that the cop commented as he was pursuing the bike, the the rider was not wearing gloves. Like it was more likely he stole the bike as there were no gloves worn?

I see people all the time in all the correct safety gear worth an absolute fortune, but they still ride like idiots and put themselves and everyone else in danger. Often I find that the ones who like to go on about how expensive their helmets, gloves, jackets were, then ride off and act like complete wallies (in my humble opinion) on the road....maybe they think the safety gear makes them invincible?
We all know that it's a combination of loads of different factors that increases or decreases our safety on the road, but of course, we're all going to have different opinions on what that right combination is

While I always wear my gloves I have to agree with the sweaty hand syndrome being a pain... I have had to dry mine over night before now... Last week however I bought a pair of Frank Thomas Sprint gloves (from Cycletreads) with leather mesh between the fingers to let air in, while still safe I have to say wow what a difference... now it is just the rest of me that feels like I'm riding in a sauna
