Fired up early on Saturday morning to get to the Kentish for the supposed 8.00 am start, arrive a little late to find everyone still there drinking coffee & getting the sleep out of their eyes. All good so far, weather is foggy & cool but promises to be a cracker day. Head out 8.20 to the start @ the Jolly Farmer Drury, quick stop for gas & in for registration for the pot o gold run. Fog is gone & the sun is brilliant, couple of quick adjustments to the bike & we are on our way to the 1st stop in Ramarama (county inn) then up the Great south road to Bombay & on to Highway 2 looking for the clues to the next part of the quiz, off the main highway & out towards the Kaiawa coast & back into the fog via the back roads to the next stop Red Fox.
Red Fox is open & expecting us it seems, clues found quick drink & smoke & on to the next part of the trail, up 2 & into tahuna pub for the next break & more clues. Over 30 bikes already there when we roll in,more bike arrive as we sample the 1st beer of the day & warm in the sun as we all sort our selves out & mingle.
The ride from Tahuna to Ohinewai is good, nice road & easy pace being kept up by most. Over the Expressway & turn right to the Rangiriri pub for more clues but more importantly lunch, excellent feed here & so many bikes I gave up counting. Porche car club was there as well , some really nice cars & people. They had overordered on the food side of things so "donated" some of the extra's to the bikers, Nice one Porche club.
After stuffing ourselves here it was a cruise to Muddy Waters Mercer, beer in hand checking out the bikes & overlooking the Waikato river, good stuff, nice pub too.
Last clues have been collected & notes exchanged & time to head back the the Kentish , we rolled in about 3.30 pm in time for the 4.00pm cutoff.
An excellent finish to a brilliant day, Results of the ride were sorted & the prize giving started , $5,000 1st prize plus a load of other prizes as well.
