Thumbs up Calling all Club 250ers. Do you want rides posted in Club 250?

    Hi Everyone,

Recently we had a long posting member infracted and his thread about a 250 ride removed by a mod as it was not in "meetings and events"
I say club 250 is for 250 members and if an event is specifically for 250 riders then this is the right place for it,

Since the very beginning of Club 250 riders have posted about rides here, and it is often the first port of call for newer riders when the first join KB.

What do you think? Do you want 250 rides posted here? This is your chance to have a say!

Its certainly a yes from me!

    Moderator's note

Before people get too excited about this, the reason for the infraction was posting the same information in more than one thread, not for posting in the 250 thread, although Meetings and Events should really go in the Meetings and Events thread. Post in one or the other, not both.

I refuse to believe that 250 riders only read the Club 250 thread and nothing else on this site.

    Storm in a tea cup

Well, bikers being bikers - we all have a healthy scepticism of authority and anything that smacks of the nanny state. All good and well, I understand the need for rules and some arbitary decisions to be made (for the greater good)

But does all things have to be pigeoned holed so sperzackerly? And is there going to be the usual state of affairs where you get punished for trying to second-guess whether you will be doing something right or wrong?

A more lenient and even-handed approach works wonders, as a teacher I don't automatically jump down or punish a student who has transgressed. Only if that behaviour was "cynical" or continued would there be a need to "enforce" the law of the land.

A quiet word and explanation works wonders ... and with sensible and logical people, that's all is required. Otherwise hackles get raised, previously obedient toe-the-line people get hoity-toity etc.

For heavens sakes, we are bikers! We bike! Thats what we do - and we enjoy sharing our passion with other bikers, warts and all. We make mistakes, we get reminded, and appropriate measures are taken. But with consideration and at an appropriate level!

    My two cents ...

    Moderator's (next) note

This issue isn't about pigeon-holing. It's about only posting something once, rather than repeated in every forum that it's poster could possibly imagine.

If somebody is miffed by this, tough. There is plenty of choice for threads in which to post. In fact there's even one specially for dickheads.

Remember, only post something once in the most appropriate thread. Newish members will generally escape with a warning. Any offender with a few hundred posts under their belt is expected to know better and will get infracted.

errr.... Meetings and events go into that section... I mean it stands to reason that's what it's for.

It's not "Most meetings and events", or "Some meetings and events". If there's a KB meeting or KB event... then that's where it goes.

I think I know the one. It must be taking up far too many valuable kilobytes by now..... time to shut it down? (evil snigger....)

Put the details of the ride in the Meetings Forum and then open a "Discussion Thread" in the Club 250 Forum.

Since I started riding and going on the group rides here I've always found out about them in this forum, and have the same post in the meetings forum allowing you to sign up.

What's the matter if there's 2 posts in different sections? They're both well within what should be posted in each forum, and will grab a bigger target audience (ie: As previous rides have shown, 250 forum for the 250's, meeting and events for more experienced riders who'd like to come and help the newbies along.)

It all sounds perfectly reasonable to me, but then again I'm in it for the rides, so that's just me!

Excessive use of force in my opinion - deletion and a pm would have done the job.

I agree it shouldn't have been posted twice - in fact most of my rides are organised by mobile phone now.

It's a shame. But there's nothing we can do about it.

Once I have enough phone numbers in my phone I'll probably leave KB for good since it doesn't make me laugh any more and there are plenty other websites with more accurate data resources.
