    Cunning linguists

We have a couple Japanese students staying with us for a few more days .. they have been here for a week now and we have actually managed to communicate with them a little ..(they are players for a Jap U-18 Rugby team)

problem is .. they dont speak English, German or Farsi, so i am stuck at how to tell them what a pleasure it has been to have them here ( they are great kids .. very polite)

anyone speak Japanese?.. i could use some phonetic spelling on how to tell them how much we enjoyed having them here

I only know bits that I picked up off Cowboy Bebop, but I doubt you'd want to tell them to turn around their ship before you shoot.

I used to speak it a bit, but that was in intermediate school. Buggered if I can remember more than what cm2005 said, how to introduce myself and maybe some random words like futon

I don't know any Japanese language at all, so can't help you there, but maybe you could write down your thoughts (in English) in a farewell card?
Sometimes second language learners' ability to read and write in English is much better than their speaking and listening skills.

I asked about some more expressive sentences but they were far too long. Everything in English translates into huge paragraphs in Japanese.

My only contribution amounts to a suggestion that the vowels be pronounced as they would be in Maori, (Sarge, that's probably the same as in Apache, Soiux, etc ). As long as they aren't pronounced as in English.
