It's just ignorance...! From their point of view I'll bet something along of this happened.

One IT expert them they needed a new PC. To fix the old one would cost too much, get a cheapie and get up and going.

I won't name the store he bought it from but yeah, along these lines. Basically he'd followed my advice, went to the Warhouse but they had no Lenovo's. I'd told him to avoid Mercury and Acer PC's at all costs. He'd then rang up Dell only to be told it'd be 10 working days (he didn't tell me he wanted one urgently and they normally take 5 days) so he then went to one of the electrical stores and got he HP/Compaq.

After customer discovers there are no vista drivers for both his (HP!!) printers nor his scanner he popped back to store. Helpful electrical store comment today "just put the old hard drive in the new PC and dual boot it". So I rung them back and told them that it would invalidate his 2 year warranty, probably wouldn't work without a lot of shagging around with drivers and would also be illegal as his copy of XP is OEM like most out there.
