They're pretty rarely seen these days, but recently I was in one company's labs where they do work on navigation systems and spend a lot of time with maps. They all had trackballs, might've been spaceballs. Apparently ideal for scrolling around huge maps.
Yup, still weapon of choice for a lot of people working in 3D environment.
For me that's 3D CAD work, mostly in Rhino.
Still waiting for a 3D hologram "touchscreen" so I can fingerpaint stuff inside a real 3D desktop display LOL.
