Summit Cafe/Flying Fish (for Wairarapa/Wellington riders)

Rimutaka Summit Cafe

Last Saturday when sitting at the Rimutaka summit, I noticed some building-type work going on inside the cafe. (For those who don't know, the cafe at the Rimutaka summit has been closed for a number of months now, so you can't get anything to eat/drink up there unless you bring it yourself....).

I strolled over in my usual nonchalant/subtle way (a bit like the Vero ad me) and asked the guys inside what the story was. Apparently it's going to be opening up for business in another couple of weeks - yeeharr!!

I know they aren't a trendy latte/fw/long black/panini/pasta/big city type of cafe, but it's very nice to get a hot drink/food/whatever up there. (Especially when it's

!!!!) I told them we were looking forward to it reopening.

I presume it's changed hands and now has new owners. (I didn't want to give them the third degree!) We'll find out once it opens.

Flying Fish

I phoned the Flying Fish yesterday. Got their voicemail saying "we're closed till early July". I'll keep trying this week in case they're there to give me a specific re-opening date.

Thanks for the info Lynda. I would never venture into the Summit Cafe after having a near-death experience some years ago involving a dead fly burger...

The flies (plural) were very dead. The burger (I use this term advisedly) was luke cold. It was I, gentle readers, who was near death. I conservatively estimate that at least 11 statutes were breached. The proprietor's efforts to extract the flies once these were brought to his attention was also underwhelming. This man's understanding of "hygiene" clearly stopped at the Five Second Rule...

Finally got hold of someone at the Fish.

They open again from tomorrow - Sat 9th July - yay!!

They'll be open from 10.00am till 8.00pm (winter hours).

I said who I was and that we were missing them.

There's a 5 second rule for flies too ???? (been a chef for 25 years got me some great fly recipies if you want them mate)

HHHmmm brings back memories of Roy's in welly hundreds of years ago .... the 3am cheese, egg and roach burger ....mmmmmmmm ...

How many years ago?

To be fair its changed hands a fair few times! looks like new owners again lateley...?
