How often do you actually look at the people that are driving/riding around you?
Do you take notice of what other drivers are doing? Talking on a cellphone, having a conversation, reaching behind the seat for their dropped lighter, looking pretty angry in your general direction?
Being aware of what other drivers are doing, how they are acting can be a good indicator of how much danger they pose to you.
Don't just look at the type of vehicle to make your judgement, the person behind the wheel is the biggest danger!
It's not something you need to do ALL the time, but I especially do it when commuting in heavy traffic. If you look carefully you should be able to pick the people that pose a risk to you, I find it pretty easy to pick people that are about to lane change without indicating, or worse - without checking. Being aware of how much attention other road users are actually paying to the task of driving may just save you if you take notice and take the appropriate action to mitigate the risk.
