    TV coverage

Having been in the country for just over two weeks now i've seen plenty of tv coverage of what looks like low level car racing of all sorts of well out of date classes.

Is there much coverage of bike racing on things like NZ motorsport or are bikes like the UK seen as 2nd class?

If the coverage of other autosport is anything to go by it would seem that club racing etc should get some coverage.

well unfortunately, the only coverage New Zealand road racers get, is two rounds of the nationals and only 600's and superbikes are shown. Hopefuly it's better this year but I doubt it

Road racing in nz is more of 3rd class behind motocross which dose get some coverage evory now and then and as Tim 39 said only the national rounds get shown and thats only the 600's and superbikes, so much for all the prize money from the nationals going towards tvnz.

The honda's did me proud mate winning well over 20 races and two titles, dominating a season.....lovely bikes but a bit fragile.

We've been here in NZ two weeks now and so far loving it, absolutely loving it

The TV is a bit of an eye opener and last night I think they were saying a new series was starting and it was 'The Bill'......lol

This may be new to NZ but its must have been on for nearly 15 years in the UK i would have thought. The other program that seems popular as its on at prime times is 'Are you being served?????' which was made in the 70's i think.

There much more to life than TV but jeezzz i'm so thankful for Sky Sports.....

Hopefully get a bike soon and then start track daying if i can and learn these tracks you all mention.

    OH COOL!! Another Honda racer!
We need all the support we can get. They dont have a very good rep as far as racing goes in nz.

The only way your getting on tv, is to lead a few races in the National level and Street races.

Honda's were sold on in 2006 while i recovered from injuries including a broken neck which i suffered at Brands Hatch while trying to get the lead in a UK endurance race riding an R1.

The honda's i had were well specced but the issue with them was fragile motors that needed careful looking after and they are expensive to kit compared to some of the other makes when you go for Kit stuff etc.

My number 1 bike was fast making near 135bhp at the tyre but went through two heads over a season. Thankfully it never broke in my championship races but is did cost me some podiums in Open class races against 1000's.

I love the CBR600RR and the bikes i had won many races including a Brands Hatch Open class event against 1000cc superbikes but i've yet to try the new one?

    Anyone fancy lending me one???

It would be very good to see all of the national classes and rounds on TV this year, but I doubt it will happen.
The money MNZ spent went into radio and tv advertising for the nationals, and not into actually showing the racing. I think that it was good that they did that because at the moment Road racing is lacking profile in New Zealand, everyones too interested in rugby and things like that

nice Avatar Colin...most people would find something like that on the internet rather than go down to the park with leathers and a helmet on and make their own... but anyway lol

Two weeks in the country and moaning about the state of TV...... I think the boats sail both ways mate, if you don't like it ........

Road racing here is more a summer time thing with the Nationals run over an approx 6 week period. The TV coverage is a package of highlights that is put together and replayed on both free to air TV and through Sky. We do get live MotoGP and World SBK on Sky and a fair bit of MX, both World and AMA with the Kiwi boys doing well, Josh Coppins and Ben Townley.
