Bit of a long shot but...

I know its a bit of a long shot but thought i'd give it a try in the hope that someone out there has a bike they want raced but don't race themselves or has a team that requires a rider as a stand in or tester for more long term.

I'm hoping to get a bike sorted for myself to race this coming season once our crate of belongings including my full bike kit of tools, warmers, genny, awning etc etc arrives (we've only been in NZ for two weeks)

In the meantime i do have my riding kit here and if anyone is looking for a reasonably quick rider to race or test their bike please bare me in mind.

As per my other posts here i have a fair bit of experience having ridden most things including 125GP, Minitwins(here known as the protwins), 996 Dukes, Yamaha 1000's, most 600's in Supersport spec and a number of endurance spec bikes.
In the UK i have won a lot of races over the years in Open 1000 and 600 classes and two championships. I have a full rider profile available if needed and internet links to a number of press released reports on my races in the UK as well as newspaper stories etc.

Anyone who may possibly want a rider or even get involved in my future race plans here in NZ please don't hesitate to get in touch.

As it says at the top its a long shot but if you don't seek it or ask for it you rarely get it.

May well have beaten you to it but have to wait and see

Just to add to my above post that started the thread....I'm not looking for a free ride and will contribute funds to anyone who wants me to race their bike and try to help out with costs etc.

Rubbish. You've got to back yourself, and explore avenues others haven't. I'm a nobody, and managed to land what I feel is the best supported ride in NZ. We're at the stage now where there's more suppliers wanting on board than we can accomodate.

You cant be a nobody, what would that make me???

But true enough, a lot of sponsorship is more about you sales ability, sell yourself, and how well you'll get the backers name out there.

Search for it people, ask everybody, remember, if you dont ask you dont get.

One of our sponsors is a born salesman, and has no trouble at all finding money for just putting a name on the side of the bike, (it's gonna be a bitch to remember them all when we're thankin them after a race tho),
what can you offer that the next guy isn't? Because that is what makes you stand out from the crowd.

As per my other posts here, i have a fair bit of experience having crashed most things including GP100, 250 twins (here known as the $hite old bikes), 400's (here also known as $hite old bikes), Yamaha 850's, most 600's not in Supersport spec and a number of badly specced bikes.

In the UK i never won any races. If needed I have Internet links to a number of press released reports on my speeding convictions and crashes in the UK as well as newspaper stories etc.

Anyone who may possibly want a rider or even get involved in my future race plans here in NZ please don't hesitate to get in touch.

I am going through the motions of selecting a rider for our team and with a free bike ,entry fees paid , fuel supplied, bike maintained, etc its a hell of an offer so before this winter season is over one of the finalists will be selected to be riding for TEAM CANBRACE and having a ball in 2008.

Sponsors require differant returns at differant levels so there is no hard and fast rule except both parties have to get a win from the partnership.
My sponsor wouldnt know one end of a bike from the other but he saw my passion and clear plan and took interest in it and has now got caught up in the fever of it all and he still knows nothing about bikes. He just sees / hears returns for his name being out there in the public arena, equalling good well placed advertising / exposure in an area he wouldnt normally try to promote into as its not his comfort zone.
    Cheers Paul.

I wouldn't mind being able to pay for me racing let alone someone else to have all the fun at my expense

What were those campionships you won?

    600cc Champion......

    Overall season Champion.....

    All the results are......HERE

    Season report.......HERE

This club is one of the three main ones in the UK race scene the others being Bemsee and New Era where i've also won races. Riders from all three often decide to race at one of the other clubs for odd meetings as they probably do here. The next stage up from these three is British Superbike meetings where Superbike (pretty much the level of the World series and currently having more factory support than WSB), Supersport (I've raced here as a privateer), Superstock, Superstock Cup and British 125GP races are held.

My only guide to pace here versus in the UK is Hayden Fitzgerald who is this year in National Superstock in the UK a massively competitive series with plenty of ex Brit Superbike riders in it and looking at his results to date he's finished where i'd expect to be in that series.

There's a saying that 'the older you get the faster you were' and i'm getting on a tad now..........

Never going to be a pro rider, although i thought like many, years ago, that i could have been so for me racings a hobby and an expensive one at that. Like all of us i'll be looking for sponsors and unlike you guys i don't know anyone here yet so very likely it'll be hard to come by....it always is.

Unfortunately my UK sponsors, other than Arai aren't transferable to NZ but fingers crossed something comes up here.

Was very nice to speak to Triumph the other day who knew my name and results which shocked me, so fingers crossed on getting a bike.......lol

As someone said above, racing and sponsors is about getting known and selling yourself as much as your ability to ride allthough obviously the latter is important. This thread and some others here are a first step in getting known i guess and hopefully building contacts and eventually contacts lead to sponsors......

Racing and sponsors is more often than not about who you know and meet and in my experience never about someone seeing a result and thinking 'hey i'll sponsor them' unless you're one of the very top few in the world that is.

I'm far from that mate i but look forward to getting out there at some stage soon. New country, new tracks couldn't be looking forward to it more. Only thing holding up some track time at the moment is the wifes list of things to get done, you know, minor things like a place to live etc etc.

I've told her we could fit in the pop up awning when it gets here but she'd didn't find it funny for some reason?
