    Don't know what's going on...please help!

Okay, so had carbies cleaned and a few rubber bits replaced on my cbr250. Carbie was done by mechanic but rest was put back together by me (eg only air filter and fuel tank...nothing you could really stuff up). Anyway, bike sat in garage for most of the last 6 months as I waited for parts etc. Got it going again last week but it pretty much ran out of petrol so had to leave it while I went north for a wedding. ANYWAY, put petrol in it and tried to start it up...gave the starter button a few pushes...turning over turning over but not firing (sorta expected this) then BIG POP and a woooo sound....ahhh very scared what does this mean????... not to be phased I tried a few more times (after letting it sit for a few minutes) and once again BIG POP and woooo sound. Now I'm to frightened to touch it. What do these sounds mean? Not the sound of me flushing money down the toilet? Is it just bike back firing for some reason?

Take my advice with caution, as I'm a complete beginner, but I think all that's happening is the engine is not firing (because of old fuel, hasn't run for a while, you've recently had it to bits etc.). However the engine keeps sucking fuel anyway -- except it's not burnt, it just ends up getting pumped out into your exhaust pipe. Eventually the engine does fire for whatever reason, and that lights up all the fuel sitting in your exhaust. BIG POP.

I'd be persistent, it sounds like it wants to start at least.

Okay, so bike isn't starting...thought is that p[erhaps battery doesn't have enough charge (what with being used to start bike heaps but never charging again cause bike hasn't been taken on a run). Anyone know if it's okay to use one of those 12v overnight chargers on a 250s little battery?

    Cheers for all the help!!

general rule of thumb for a battery is (not sure right now but it is something something like a quarter for larger battery and 1/10th for smaller of the battery's capacity e.g. 2 amp battery only use a 0.5 amp charger) but your best bet is to see how many amps the charger puts out if it is more than 1 amp best to avoid it at all costs and get something smaller. mine is 0.5 amps and can still give a dead battery enough charge for a start in a few hours.
I may be slow at getting things but..... no wait I'm just slow.
