I've been looking for an engine for mine for 8 months, engines are non existent. I've got complete bike. well nearly the top end exploded when the cam chain let go.All the bits are still there. If you can get some one to pick it up $1500. Its a KB member's called Torques old bike, search for pics on here. good wheels, tyres braided front lines, daishin exhaust.
    Everything is there 1500$

short answer: Wayne - get yerself on banditalley and talk to gsxr400racer.

Longer answer for both of you

The gsf400 (bandit) and gsxr400 engines from the same years are nearly identical - gk73, gk75, etc. Carbs are different, and cams are (I think) very slightly different.

Some of the engine and bodywork from other suzuki 400's is a straight bolt-in as well (e.g. rf400).

Also, a lot of the performance parts for other manufacturers 400's (e.g. racing carbs) will bolt straight up with minor modifications.

For example, keihin racing carbs from an xjr400 will bolt more or less straight on.

So depending on what you're looking for, do your research and widen your search.

If it's just your top end that's gone, get yourself on banditalley and ebay, and get the top end parts. I think there might even be a guy on banditalley selling one at the moment.

    how bout breaking it

I'd love to buy the complete bike but customs is a bitch here in Australia. If you want to break the bike I would be keen on plastics, tank and frame. Interested?

If you are still looking for an engine, you could do worse than to buy this bike (assuming the price doesn't go too high), and swap the engines over - it's basically the same engine.
