Uh, wrong way round. Instead of asking what you can expect from a sponsor, ask what can you offer a sponsor. The more you are able to offer, the greater the amount of sponsorship that you can ask for in return.

Advertising on your bike is great, but how many people are evr going to see it. As you head down the main straight at 200 kmh, who is going to be able to read the sponsors name painted on your fairing, (unless you are winning and so getting your photo published while sitting on your bike). But paint the sponsor's name on your van and it is seen all the time. the more exposure that you can give your sponsor then the more you can ask for.

When you approach a potential sponsor make sure that you have already calculated the value of the benefits that you are offering. eg How many people are going to see the sponsors name? How many are potential buyers in the sponsor's area? How many from outside the sponsor's area are likely to buy from sponsor via mail order or web based shopping.

Then ask for sponsorship valued at less than you are offering so that the sponsor feels he is getting a good deal.

Ive just been going through this exact problem.
As Janter said, get a price list sorted out so you have somthing to take to a potencial sponsor.
It really what you can offer them. The more the better.

This isn't motogp so the public have free access to ther pits which means you can have signage, brochures, product samples available (if appropriate), displays etc.
Obviously being successful helps but often just being involved is a buzz fior potential sponsors: invite them to the track, give them posters size pic's to hang in their office/showroom, display your bike in their showroom/window, supply race reports/updates, pillion them at a track day etc etc, most of which costs you next to nothing but has them helping you out.
